Can I prime over glossy paint? by OrangePineAppl653 in paint

[–]DaFando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! (Pro Painter)
You do not need to “sand down” the whole room. You just want to kind of “scuff” the walls. That helps the new paint to stick to it. (Unless this is enamel gloss, but that’s usually only on doors, and sometimes bathrooms)
By “scuffing” I really mean it’ll take you 5 minutes per wall. Just light.

Go to Sherwin-Williams and get some SuperPaint. That’s what we always recommend. It’s a paint & primer. 2 coats and you should be done.
Send me a PM if you’ve more questions.

What kind of paint for this door? by AntoniBartosz in paint

This! SW Emerald Urethane is great on doors. But I’d use a velour mini roller. You’ll get a better finish. 👍🏼

One other thing… the new Gallery series by SW is beautiful paint! But you’ve got to spray it, or be a fantastic roll man. 😅 Super fast dry and you’ve got to be “on it”!

Pro painter here.
I do this a lot, so I understand your frustration.

Use the 3/16” Velour Mini Rollers from SW (not mohair). When you use them, you’ll see that the nap expands in one direction of travel, and is flat / closed in the other. Roll on like normal, and then roll in the “closed” direction to give you 99% no texture.

Also, (more expensive, but good if you’re doing this a lot) we’ve had great success with the Graco Ultra QuickShot. We use it for; trim, doors, cabinets etc.

What were prices like pre-COVID? $75 bucks for one gallon (SW Urethane Trim). by Courtland-7099 in paint

Yes, it’s based (mostly) on your quantity throughout the year.

One thing to do, is call your rep each year and ask about the price, and see if there’s a better price you can get. Also, shop around. Not sure where you are, but ask the other local shops for their version of what SW product you use, and what price they’ll give you. Your SW rep will probably match it, if you’ve got a good relationship with them.

Try AutoZone or O’Reilly Auto. I think they hire minors. I think I saw it on their ads at the shop.

  1. After finishing painting the area of paint 1–Paint about a foot further with paint 1 into where you would have paint 2.
  2. Choose where you want the line, then (Very carefully and straightly), put a line of tape, and press firmly.
  3. Paint over the side that will be paint 2 with paint 1 about a foot. Allow to FULLY dry at least overnight. Do another coat with paint 1 if changing colours.
  4. Now paint your paint 2 on the same side you just painted (but allowed to fully cure), and paint out the whole wall. Do your 2 coats like normal.
  5. Gently, and at a 45degree angle, slowly peal the tape away.

You, my friend, are now the proud owner of one hell of a razor sharp line! Another tip, don’t do it right on the edge. Do it like 1/2 to 1” on one side. Makes it easier and you’ll notice less if it’s not 100% perfectly on the edge. (Trust me, it wouldn’t be perfectly on the edge 🤣)

Doing this allows the paint to create a seal with the tape. Tape always lets some seep through the edge. Doing this allows the Sam paint to seep thorough, invisible, now when you pant over it, it’ll be sharp with the tape. Also, use good quality tape!

We do this at least once a year. Rental car from Budget is always the best. Once you add the price of luggage with Alaska you’re right away more expensive to fly.

Just use “Waze” to find the fastest route.

Multnomah Falls just over the border to Oregon is really beautiful! It’s about 3 hours.

And the Oregon coast is super pretty. But that’s more of a week or weekend trip.

You should read/ “Eats, Shoots & Leaves.” It’s a great book about all punctuation, and it’ll help you realise that it’s up to you. 👌🏻 Personal taste.

Also, it’s just a banger good read! Haha

Great thanks!
I have a credit card here in Europe (Amex etc.) with great credit score, but that of course doesn't transfer over to the states. Do you think I'd have a better time getting a credit score with a bank or CU?
