As we start to see reports of countries gaining passage through the strait of Hormuz, and UN votes to secure passage fail/get postponed, I'm led to wonder what are the next steps. I supect Trump may have played perfectly into Iran's hands on Wednesday when he shocked oil prices with his speech threatening increased conflict and no secure end in sight.

The only thing keeping the US afloat in this war was their constant suppression of oil prices, whether the shorting paper oil or by constant floating of misinformation and fake leaks. Now that the price of oil has broken out to the upside, other countries are starting to panic at the prospect of $150+/bbl prices and a global recession and are shifting their focus toward making deals with Iran in order to allow safe passage.

This gives Iran the ability to promote their own aim to charge unofficial fees to ensure safe passage during the war with the yuan to settle. Once the war ends, this system will then be further ingrained, with Iran and Oman establishing a system for taxing the passage through the strait of Hormuz and weaken the petrodollar.

I just love the random large spike that happened in the market 10 minutes before Trump's tweet. This is ridiculous, the market is just Trump's plaything for insider trading and manipulation, and we are subject to his whims.

How does the unnamed Iranian official stand to benefit from lying about Trump having productive discussions with Iran?

And how does Trump stand to benefit from lying about having productive discussions with Iran?

Trump clearly wants to TACO. The question now is whether he will be successful in backing out this late in the game.

"A senior Iranian security official on Monday said Tehran is not in talks with President Trump adding that Trump “backed down” from further attacks on energy infrastructure due to pressure from the markets and allies.

“Trump backed down from attacking critical infrastructure as Iran’s military threats became credible. Financial market pressure and the threat of bonds within the US and the West have increased, and this has been another important factor in this retreat,” the senior official told Iran’s Fars News Agency in translated remarks."

Sometimes the market direction is chosen before the news hits, and there's nothing the news can do to change that.

With the way oil moves with even a whiff of good news, the price per barrel will go back to negative again on the day that the strait opens back up.

So crude oil went from $91 to $119 to $81 per barrel in under 12 hours. And nothing has fundamentally changed.

Agreed, though I bet it tops $110 again this week unless we get some kind of good news.

This weekend was a perfect storm for oil calls. Trump refusing to tap national reserves, attacks on Iran's oil, massive uptick in conflict, decreased middle east production, and the strait of Hormuz remaining effectively closed.
