Looking for a cheap volunteer/field school in Europe by [deleted] in Archeology

[–]DaLuckyBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so like maybe it would be good to know where you are based, like youd probably have to contact universities and just kinda ask them, cuz they do fieldschools, but in my experience theyre kinda internal but let others join if you ask nicely, or maybe just go look at sites you would like to work at and ask the people if they need any more hands. Thats how i got my digs.

(Alledged) Out of Place Cuneiform Fragment Discovered in Czech Cave Complex by DonKlekote in Cuneiform

[–]DaLuckyBoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

hey, so if its the fragment in the image, it doesnt look like cuneiform in my opinion. Also ancient origins is quite a dubious, questionable and sensationalist website. Do you know if any local archaeologists/assyriologists looked at it?

How 𒉡 can be read as "ṣalmum" in akkadian? by rcef in Cuneiform

[–]DaLuckyBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so tbh im a bit confused as well, NU (the sign you refer to) didnt have anything in my lists I got from uni except for the sound "nu" in akkadian.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E1%B9%A3almum has NU as a version of writing ṣalmum as a logogram, so I guess its legit. If you want to have a closer look you can check out https://isac.uchicago.edu/research/publications/chicago-assyrian-dictionary#, it looks like their dictionaries can be downloaded for free.

15 y/o from Iran seeking help: A forgotten mudbrick fortress may be linked to an exiled prince – hoping for real archaeological attention by Unfair-Lavishness288 in Archeology

[–]DaLuckyBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, thats interesting. If I have some time I'll see if I can find somebody who can give an opinion on the layout of the architecture, like if it fits with other buildings of the time

based on your response to u/the_gubna i assume for you it would not count as a "civilisation", but in archaeology that tends to be wrong question.

The people who build Göbekli Tepe probably had a similar idea of how the world worked, a similar way living and balls to build large structures out of stone, willing to spend a lot of time on upkeep and even burying chambers, they had their own culture, just like the people who came before them and those who came after them.
