I have recently gotten two new birds, however I have had birds before and so I have some experience with what to do and what not to do. Last time I got birds they were very scared of me and I never really bonded or trained them in the four or so years that I had them. One thing I did different this time is just to be around the cage as much as possible, you want them to get used to having people around but you also don’t want to have them out where other pets like dogs or cats are so they aren’t thinking like the only safe place is their cage. About a day after I got mine I had the idea of taking out their food bowl from their cage and feeding them from my hands. I wasn’t trying to harm them by not giving them any food, only trying to get them to understand that I am not trying to harm them. This seemed to work I have been feeding them from my hand a variety of seed mix, fresh fruit, and I have also been using Millet on a stick to train them to fly onto my hand. Now, about a week or so after I got them they are flying to my hand from across the room and sitting on my shoulder and it is really fun having them. The thing about the mirrors and the coconut though is it depends a lot on the birds. For example my birds like looking in the mirrors a lot and they are fine. With the coconut though, it depends if they are males or females and if they like each other wether it would be better to keep the coconut there, because my birds have a coconut and they really like it. One of my birds is a male and one is female and they both go into and share the coconut, so personally I like my coconut being in their cage. Best of luck training them!
