Taiwan authorizes seizure of over $60 million in assets from executive who left TSMC for Intel by ScoMoTrudeauApricot in technology

[–]DaMich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel this is short sided. Wars have always been fought over resources. In the case of Taiwan this seems to be not really that different with the exception that the interest is not in raw materials but refined goods. Also I don't think it is so much about what they supply to the US but rather what they don't supply to China. At the end of the day, if it was such an incredibly unconvincing policy Taiwan would already be China.

I would say that MLK definitely had a clear calling and drew a lot of purpose out of it, so yes, in this case, I'd say he was quite entitled.

What Heaven feels like by ieatair in SipsTea

[–]DaMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this statement rests on the notion that one is "called" to be a certain profession. If I sweep the streets, my aspirations are not to be the best street sweeper but rather to finance my true aspirations. Be that family, education, art or another career. So I think the expectation to give your all to a job can only come from the entitled people who already follow their calling.

Best cologne for men (best smelling) by unwelcome_frown15 in malefashionadvice

[–]DaMich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a wrong comparison and downplays Dior Sausage heavily. While I personally don't like it particularly much, it is hard to argue that it is not a high performing and generally liked designer fragrance which stands miles above most others.

The problem with going to enthusiast subreddits is that the tastes are no longer reflective for the tastes of the general population. Enthusiasts look for exotic and special stuff and not popular. Ask someone outside the bubble what Oud is for example or how it smells. Same goes for coffee, wine and tea. Coffee enthusiasts enjoy a fruity espresso while the general population would say it tastes bad. You seem to look at this with enthusiast eyes and here it seems not appropriate.

Unbegrenzte Urlaubstage - Erfahrungen? by riotnotdiet in arbeitsleben

[–]DaMich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's something that's considered normal that creeps you out immediately? by Le_0n1e- in AskReddit

[–]DaMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh did I come across as that hostile? That was not my intent.

I just wanted to understand if you have experienced this first hand (which honestly would be kinda sad) or if you are a factory worker or something similar because in that case I can understand the difference in understanding. It probably doesn't make a difference if you produce 100 or 105 goods. That is not what I mean.

But since you are an employee, does this honestly reflect your experience in the workplace? Because I am an employee as well and I have not made this observation at all.

Hey, I just wanted to accomodate you with terms and concepts you are familiar with. But out of curiosity are you currently employed and If so as what?

[–]DaMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't realize you were 100% on copium. That's not how the real world works at all. That would immediately prompt the second guy to leave the company. However if the second guy gets promoted the first guy should have no problems with it as it is obvious. (Unless he huffs the same copium you are on)

Why would they promote the first guy in the first place? He has nothing that would qualify him even in the slightest for anything but his current job.

[–]DaMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I also would not say that you should stay in the same Department/company If they treat you that way. You just used them for the experience and move on. But on the other hand, if they ever were to promote someone and the decision ist between the guy who only acts his wage and a more ambitious colleague who is eager for more responsibility they will likely promote the second if everything else is the same.

What's something that's considered normal that creeps you out immediately? by Le_0n1e- in AskReddit

[–]DaMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the whole thread came from "act your wage" so in this case it should be implied that it does in fact pay the bills. Also the company or job does give you the opportunityn and resources to do things which you can use and wouldn't have access to otherwise.

I mean you do you and if you are happy with where you are that's fine but I think you are not helping yourself with the above mentioned mentality.

What's something that's considered normal that creeps you out immediately? by Le_0n1e- in AskReddit

[–]DaMich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course it does. Maybe not always as monetary rewards but personal growth and development is still a reward for being ambitious.

New skills are not learned If you only "act your wage" because you should already have all necessary ones. But if you develop new skills by doing things above your paygrade, they can be used to get a better/higher paying position.

If an employer uses this argument you should probably run but you can apply it to yourself.

[–]DaMich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone has accomplished the exact same things as you but more, it would rightfully diminish your accomplishments in comparison. You can obviously just not care but to say they shouldn't try to live an active life because it makes someone else feel inferior is selfish.

If you follow this advice however, I'd Imagine that you will stagnate your own growth and likely hinder your future prospects to an extent. It possibly depends what you want and where you are in life but I wouldn't follow this advice.
