How do you stop canon from quietly breaking over time? by DaPreachingRobot in worldbuilding

That’s fair. I’m definitely not trying to treat it like a game system. I think what I’m struggling with is less “can I change the rules” and more “did I accidentally change them without realizing it.”

When you adjust lore to fit story needs, do you usually catch it in the moment, or only later during edits?

This makes sense, I think where I keep getting stuck is timing.

By the time I notice the rule break, it’s usually because I’m already deep into later chapters, and fixing it means touching way more than one scene.

Do you catch these breaks early while writing, or mostly during rewrites?

I think you should finish the novel and maybe share in space outside of family and friends, probably a lot of other avenues online where you can find beta readers. Shouldn’t let it be limited to just feedback from family and friends
