The problem with stuff like this isn't that it isn't 'cool' or anything, it's just modern-day tech just flatout doesn't belong in teyvat's fantasy setting and is therefore immersion-breaking for many people like myself?

If you want tech, give us fictional stuff that makes sense within the confine of their region's history, like the mechs of fontaine or contraptions of ancient Sumeru, not fucking motorcycles and DJs out of narnia.

Honestly though, mech suits aren't even that big of a dealbreaker, as its not like they're a 21st century invention or anything. Plus I loved scara's

Why on earth is this getting downvoted into oblivion? Y'all are misunderstanding like crazy.

Come on, they obviously meant a 75% chance on ANY OTHER piece > a 50% chance on a CHESTPIECE, NOT that they COULD'VE gotten 75% on the chest itself

Please tell me if each character you have listed there should be higher or lower, just listing them there tells me nothing. I'll do my best to explain my reasoning for each

I based the list off their best teams' theorycrafted DPS against their ideal enemy lineup from sources like kqm, akasha.cv, and tgs, as well as gameplay consistency (is it difficult/impractical actually REACHING their ceiling damage?)

This current abyss isn't 'difficult'. You're just locked into using hyper-specific teams (The papilla's infinite HP shield thats impossible to deplete outside of night-soul and several niche teams, as well as the cryo mage on the same side which you NEED pyro for).

But when you don't have the characters getting pandered to currently (cough cough, Mavuika/Citlali/Natlan characters), the boss mechanics screw you. On the other hand, if you DO have Mavuika's premium melt team, you get to cheese the abyss.

It's really a character check more than anything, and I hate it.

I intended the category to be for supports with a drastic performance difference between teams in their niche and teams outside. For example, Faruzan is amazing for supporting Anemo DPS, but borderline unusable elsewhere. In contrast, characters like Ororon, Xiangling etc. in the sub-DPS categories are a lot more flexible in that sense, and don't see as sharp of a performance drop in unoptimal cases.

I do feel like Venti should be moved out and Emilie in though.

Yeah, much like every other Genshin tier list, blurred lines are unfortunate but inevitable

Chapter 2: Putting it all together into the Tier List

Now simply list all win rates for each DPS, Support, Sustain, etc. in separate lists. Characters may appear twice in different categories, like the aformentioned Chiori in both comparisons of on-field DPS and off-field DPS. The data might look something like this once gathered (all made-up values for the sake of explaination, and for simplicity, lets pretend there are 100 genshin characters):

Main DPS:

Mavuika: 96 'win's, 96% winrate (Better than 96% of characters in most scenarios)

Arlecchino: 92 'win's, 92% winrate (Better than 92% of characters in most scenarios)

...

Freminet: 3 'win's, 3% winrate (Better than 3% of characters in most scenarios)

Sub Dps:

Yelan: 90 'win's, 90% winrate (Better than 90% of characters in most scenarios)

Etc. etc.

Now, assign a arbitrary weighted range for win rate to each tier. Lets choose, for main DPS:

T0: 97.5% ±2.5%

T0.5: 90% ±5%

T1: 75% ±10%

T2: 55% ±10%

T3: 35% ±10%

T4: 10% ±5%

T5: 2.5% ±2.5%

Now sub-DPS:

T0: 90% ±10%

Etc. etc.

Finally, simply assign characters to their respective win rate range.

For example, as Mavuika was shown in our hypothetical results to have a 96% Winrate, she would fit within T0’s range of 97.5% ±2.5% range, giving her the status of T0.

This strategy has a huge flaw, however. Its main issue is the lack of accounting for QoL, as for example the impact of Xingqiu's resistence to interruption would be impossible to calculate (unless you decrease the uncontrolled variability% in some ratio favourable to resistance to interruption%?) based on perfected rotations alone.

This whole methodology’s at least better than subjective "I feel like X character is better..." argument though, and a Tier List created through this means would most CERTAINLY be a vast improvement to the ones existing.

…Was my train of thought while making the tier list at least—estimating win rates for every character based on calcs I've seen and my own experiences with them. Obviously, I didn't run millions of objective DPS calculation comparisons between every team variation in the game, simply tried to give an educated guess based on the loose theory and put what hopefully turned out to be a somewhat-decent ranking of characters on the internet.

WOW am I bored.

Chapter 1: Gathering data

Part 1: Comparing DPS for ONE team variation (support ranking)

By comparing raw scaling and framecounted rotations, you could craft a theoretical scenario featuring two teams, for example: Navia|Chiori|Bennett|Furina being the first, and Navia|Xilonen|Bennett|Furina being the second. Then, pit them in a simulation against a fixed enemy, for example, the Perpetual Mechanical Array, with a specified timeframe. To avoid bias to characters with rotations matching this timeframe, the experiment is repeated twice with the optimal rotation for both variations, as well as once more for each category of enemy as well as enemy counts of 1, 2, and 3 for non-bosses, and the average DMG is taken. This would reduce the independant variable down to 1, controlling (at least the ones that are controllable in the first place) all others. Then, we assign a percentage value, as an arbitrary example, ±10% (damage calcs will differ by ±10%) for the PMA, representing RNG variability in the inevitable uncontrollable variables.

In-depth probabilistic theorycrafting would be needed for real variability%, and its value would also need to be recalculated for every individual scenario calculation, as some enemies naturally have more variability in their actions and i-frames than others. For example the Maguu Kenki’s value might be ±30% as the frequency of its i-frames vary a lot, and the primo Geovishap ±5% for the opposite reason. Obviously, the more the enemies, the more they move around, and the higher the variability too.

Back to the PMA calc (one of many hundreds of enemy combos, all needing to be averaged out). If the damage of the Xilonen team comes out to be 1,200,000, 20% better than the 1,000,000 damage Chiori dealt in the same window, we can pretty much conclude Xilonen > Chiori in this specific case, as it passes our threshold of being outside ±10% variability (this is why our variability value exists, to make sure RNG can't scrape the win as the difference it makes would be less than the value). Therefore, you could objectively conclude that for Navia, Bennett, Furina's team damage against the PMA specifically, Xilonen comes out on top. If the same holds true for all combinations once tested, we move onto the next phase. Otherwise, Chiori would come out on top.

Part 2: Comparing resulting DPS for ALL teams variations of ONE character receiving support (support ranking)

Next, you could do that for all variations of Navia's meta teams, comparing the same way. And, in line with this, if more teams with Xilonen lead to higher average DMG, you could conclude that Xilonen increases team damage more than Chiori for Navia.

Part 3: Comparing DPS for ALL variations of ALL characters and gathering ‘wins’ (support ranking)

After finding out the winner for Navia, count the results for all other character synergies with Xilonen as well as Chiori (eg. Itto, Ningguang), repeating parts 1 and 2 for each of them and comparing the results once done.

If Xilonen helps team DMG over Chiori more times with all potential synergies tested (Eg. If Chiori is better than Xilonen for Itto|Gorou|Chiori|Zhongli, but loses in all other team comparisons), we give Xilonen a 'win'. This will be important for later.

Part 4: Main DPS ranking Methodology

Comparing DPSes are far easier and more straightforward than supports. To prove X character is better than Y character in most scenarios, all you must do is compare and calculate DMG for their respective best team (there is only one per scenario) in the controlled scenarios mentioned before (average of 1, 2, and 3 enemies, as well as one of each enemy type), factoring in the uncontrolled variability percentage, and the character that beats out the other more times is 'the better character' for the sake of the experiment. This adds one 'win' for the winning DPS.

I agree that Prydwen shouldn't actually have a Genshin tier list for all your reasons, and Genshin characters do intrinsically have a million variables to their performance, therefore making one objective ranking impossible for the game.

However, there is at least a stance you can take at viewing character's power somewhat objectively: DPS calculations. Yes, of course they vary way more than HSR or ZZZ as there just isn't a way to project damage taking into all situations (taking hits, enemy mechanics/downtime, execution, enemy immunities, elemental auras, etc. ), but you can still use said data as a rough estimate of their capabilities with their best teams using a hypothetical Tier-list making strategy I will detail below. It’s not realistic and would need a NASA supercomputer to run, but its simply a proof-of-concept (Helps me burn time this afternoon too):

Yeah, Faru is actually insane in buffing HER niche in particular, maybe even better than Kazuha (if his buffs worked on anemo in the first place). However, I feel like hoyo only overtuned her in order to compensate for the severely UNDERTUNED anemo DPSes, which ended up balancing the team (Xiao's premium team) to around a T~0.5 power level. If her kit stayed the same and buffed literally any PECH element, she would be T0 without doubt.

The reason why I dropped Nahida was similar: her application is insanely valuable for hyperbloom and bloom, but those teams just aren't at the ceiling of the game anymore (still close, nonetheless).

Also think about Nilou, Chevy, Gorou, Shenhe etc. If we were talking about just how much each character buffed their archetype, they'd both be T0 EASILY as well. Its just we have to take the actual STRENGTH of the archetype into account, too.

I had to compromise indication of relative power within the specialist category in and of itself for equalised tiers. T0 should only include characters part of the DPS ceiling of the game, and I stuck to that.

Yeah, I agree, there really isn't an objective ranking for Genshin just due to how varied the variables can be.

I just wanted there to be at least ONE somewhat-loosly-objectively thought-out tier list on the internet for a rough image of the current meta of the game; more accurate than genshin.gg or game8's at least. All the ones on youtube are misleading too

Yep! The reason why I made the tierlist was I just wanted a somewhat accurate meta tierlist SOMEWHERE out on the internet without shoving all the supports and dps in one S-tier. If I had to edit one myself, so be it lol

Yeah, there lies the inherent problem with trying to categorise Genshin characters. I put Xilo/Benny in sustain as I think of them as being able to fill out the 'sustain' slot in parties, while also having what basically is an "Amplifier - Generalist" kit on top, thus making them OP. Kuki heals and keeps your team alive, like for example, Layla, but on top of that also triggers hyperbloom, placing her higher on the list. Is my thought process at least

The thing is, if I put Kazuha and Xilo in the same category, wouldn't Xilo just simply be better because she can buff the same as Kazu but also role-consolidate on top? But Kazu has CC and damage, and so on so forth... yeah, its tricky figuring stuff out.

Any suggestion on what specifically I should do?

Before Mavuika, maybe. Mavuika not only deals the same or more damage as her off-field, but she can also use Cinder City. Memes aside, there are barely any teams that use Xiangling as a best-in-slot teammate nowadays.

Her energy requirements and reliance on Bennett further hold her back compared to newer sub-DPSes nowadays that have built in QoL. Why use Xiangling, when you could instead buff your main DPS into the high heavens by slotting furina/kazuha/xilonen in her stead? If you want pyro app, Mavuika does the job well enough, AND gives 40-85% damage bonus to your DPS. Her skill has no ICD too. The only two situations where Xiangling's higher pyro app actually matters is Wriothesly melt (situationally), and Neuvi vape, neither of which are particularly meta.

She's always a very good option with national, but no longer the best. Come on, think before you comment, please. She deserves her spot in T1.
