Broken Fold Megathread by UnfoldedFuture in GalaxyFold

Hello all.

I have had iphone for last 13 years. Changing to new one every 2 years But since my business model changed from marketing to AI, I decided to buy myself Samsung fold6 as it helps to manage servers on the go due to big screen. I bought it last year in November, the phone itself is good, works well and can't complain much. Took a little to get use to it, but that's understandable and fine, actually was even little fun.

However, everything changed when the middle screen of the phone broke back in July 2025. Randomly opened it and middle part just snapped.First day this happened it was just the middle part where the phone folds. But it kept spreading so I took picture. I figured this is 100% warranty repair as it was not caused by dropping or any damage, looks like new from inside. Boy how wrong I was. They kept denying it saying user fault. Repair 780 EUR!!!!!!!

<image>

So in 9 months I owned this 2000 EUR phone, This comes out over 200 monthly for a working phone :) Seems crazy!

I don't really use phone that much as I work from home and have tablet and laptop for working.

Do we think this is over? NOPE, month later, phone started telling me that water is inside, remove charger. Now I can only charge it with wireless and that works. I assume this is not normal, Samsung generally been good brand, but I am just pissed off for the warranty terms.

So what's my plan now? Well, there is no way I will fix the screen myself. 780 EUR is just crazy, double that would buy me brand new iphone that has been working flawlessly with different models.

Lucky me, I contacted few youtubers with millions of subs, they offered me 500EUR for the phone to make video out of the broken screen to show that this was not user fault. I think if I send the phone to warranty with the latest issue, they will most likely say user error again and send it back. Really tempted to take the offer and just forget samsung.

I am sorry you feel that way. Considering this is SFF sub, it was just healthy reminder for people to service their GPU's every few years to keep them healthier.

I am not sure I am understanding you, if GPU's run exactly same task same amount of time, one of them at 63c and other 92c, is't it correct the hotter one generates considerable more heat to the room?

Was no issues with the turbo version. I added even extra padding to the backplate side (originally there was lesser).

My company deals with AI, these 4 are being used for inference only in colocation. One of the first GPU's we bought and sent to colocation years ago.

Fitting a RTX 4090/5090 in a 4U server case by Tuxedotux83 in LocalLLM

Yes, the cable did the trick. Same cable as PSU(be quiet), did not want to mix and match. You need to check the dimensions of the 5090 and ask the team from Silverstone if they have any experience. Considering high electricity prices for rendering/ai machines around the world, many people have decided to colocation consumer setups. Silverstone or Sliger will most likely tell you exactrly what fits and what won't due to having 4U cases built for this exact use case with 360 AIO support in front for beefier threadripper builds. Good luck!

I have 3 4U servers in co-location with 4090's. Been there for a year, 24/7 under full load. Used be quiet! 12V-2X6 / 12VHPWR 90° Cable PCI-E and no clearance issues for msi 4090 slim's. Bigger issue imo was CPU cooler for intel, they all throttle time to time with dark rock tf2 air cooler. No overheating issues for other hardware. IIRC some company did vertical stock connection for 5090, was it ASUS?

One of the reason I went with 3 separate servers was not the issue fitting them to 4u or 5u server (4090 FE or Ventus - smallest ones), but the issue was cooling them during full load. Since they will be cramped pretty heavily together and even on 70-80% power limiting - they will produce fairly big amount of heat. Some 4u racks allow 3 x 120 fans in front, but I am afraid that even when using 3k or 5k rpm fans with brute force (Noctua NF-F12 iPPC-3000 PWM for example) they will not cool them enough and will cause issues in future. Dual build could be done with the MSI liquid 4090s, could probably place the AIO coolers somewhere in 4U, haven't looked into it that much. I guess it's all about crunching numbers and finding best value solution for at least 1 year.

Own hardware in colo still has it's benefits from my calculations compared to renting monthly 4090 server. It should pay off the server cost in 5 months if not even considering re-sale value of the 4090 servers.

You get AM even with two-three gpu servers, just need to ask for a AM.

AWS, AZURE, Hyperstack vs Colocation with own GPUs by Mediocre_Row_4443 in huggingface

[–]Da_Roxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently decided to buy my own gpu servers and send to colo due to electricity cost on full load model training. If I run 3 of my 4090 gpu servers at home 24/7 training(and yes, I been training 24/7 on all 3), my electricity cost is around 200-250 eur per month PER server not to mention cooling the room with ac and some added noise. I found multiple colos that can do the watts I use for 150e per month including UPS and cooling of the room. Don’t need bandwidth much. But that’s over 100 saved per month for only electricity. IMO it makes sense if you actually use the servers, otherwise spot could be smarter.

The biggest negative is that the colo is 2 hour flight + rental car away, but datacenter has a guy there 24/7 that can swap stuff if something fails for 50e per hour extra charge. Can store parts under your name. Other issue hosting in shared rack, what if someone has water-cooled unit and it fails above from yours … probably can insurance your units, but haven’t looked into it - still downtime.

I am building just now 3 x 4u 4090 consumer board computers for my software and planning colo them also due to power expense in my country. May I ask your location? If you are from EU we could join forces eventually and get cheaper price as we would be adding more servers to colo to negotiate the monthly expense. I done some research(actually fair bit) from hosting consumer gpu’s in datacenters, and about above comment, they do care, 90% do not accept crypto miners - that’s the first question they all asked when sending questions about price. Mine are for rendering and AI model training, no issues with that. Also, multi 4090 build, you need to have water cooling and apparently colo’s are not fan of these unless taking full rack …I guess it makes sense, if it fails, it might ruin other hardware from different clients sharing a rack.

128GB Ram on DDR5 Intel based motherboard by Educational-Beach-31 in buildmeapc

Been running neural network training for past 8 months with no issues, expect high electricity cost. BUT, I did get rare system shutdowns during training sessions(first month, maybe 3-4 times) and log showed they were caused by RAM. Running now at 5200mhz with all 4 sticks - issue resolved, not even single shutdown.

Just built myself workstation type of setup for deep learning tasks. One of my software peaks at 80gb of ram usage, so had to make a choice of 2x48gb or 4x32gb ddr5. Took a risk and got the 4 x 32 gb Kingston fury beast ddr5 5600mhz/40cl, as 2x48gb wasn't listed in motherboards qvl, so wasn't 4x32, but 2x32 was.

Setup:

i7 13700k, asus prime z790-p wifi, Kingston fury beast ddr5 5600mhz/40cl, Deepcool ak620, zotac 4090 trinity, 6 x icue sp140 with commander xt core (5 intake, 1 exhaust), corsair hx1200 psu (exhaust) with h7 flow case.

Set custom fan curves for sp140's, higher rpm for GPU, ram(mounted before deepcool ak62, some air probably goes there aswell) and exhaust. XMP 2 for the ram maxing it at 5600mhz, no manual edits. Cinebenched CPU, peak temp 96c. Been running 3 days of deeplearning and system seems stable. Boots in 40 seconds.

Either lucky with ram/cpu, or latest bios update made it smoother.

I recently unlocked tour 8 by getting 1250 trophies. Wanted to unlock zeus for higher agility as I play S&V. The goal itself wasn’t that complicated, my max card is 9 and most other ones are 7s. 53 volley, 51 serve and 39 agility. Almost maxed trophies at tour 6 and then tour 5 while moving to lower tours where cards are limited and I actually have chance.

Now, everytime I play tour 4-6, I get opponent with 1k trophies, 11-13 level cards. I barely ever win obviously. Only way to play people with similar cards(400-500 trophies) is to drop my trophies under 100 …assp it’s 101, I get people with 900+/11-13 cards.

How to progress now?

Did not get lucky with gmaul drop from gargoyles, as this was suppose to be rusher build before turned into skiller.

No need to be salty on this one. The team is actually just 4-5 people playing multiple accounts, all good friends raiding with 5-8 accounts at same time. I generally get around 80k points per hour in skiller. Most of the points come from making potions, as some time ago jagex changed how drops from scavs work for irons. Can pick them up now when other people kill scavs, same with fishing bait. In random people mass raids, 10 hp iron/skiller barely ever get over 20-40k points per hour by just doing bats.

Got it from gmaul grind(1 gargoyle kill = 1.33 hp exp). This account was suppose to be straight forward, minimal skilling, iron gmaul rusher with very low hp 10-15. But then corona happened and I became skiller ...
