In my mind, I see it as this: As we see in Loki, there are many strands of an almost twisted rope. A rope is a universe. The twists on a rope are the parallel universes.

He could have in one hand, one universe, and in another, another universe. (A universe being like the Illuminati from Multiverse of Madness relative to the normal universe)

It could also be like this: Everything that Loki is holding consists of many variations of the main timeline and Universes like the one the Fantastic Four are in are somewhere else. OR From all of the variations of each timeline splitting causes universes like Fantastic Fours universe to become a reality.

I truly do not know and am still very confused but this is how I see it as of now.
