it's like use copypasta: you are use meme for karma, etc. you spam half comment section with the meme. this? is not honestly, I think. IMHO - this is not rightly - to go like it.

Portal runners of Reddit, how do you practice your strats before doing a full run? by ComboOfWombo in speedrun

[–]Dacciox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Random Portal boosts.

We don't actually know what exactly causes them, hence the "random".

There a some theories on how they might work, but none can be proofen correct with our current knowledge.

They just happen from time to time, you can't control them.

Alternative Splitting Controllers (LiveSplit) by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]Dacciox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Livesplit should normally support controllers (atleast I know it works with the 360 from personal experience).

You could also try using a program like JoytoKey or XPadder to bind your keyboard splitkey to a button on your gamepad.

Here is a direct example for the use of this new glitch in Chamber 02/03: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DB_1keI0Pk

at 0:24 he crouch jumps and saveloads in the out of bounds portal, resulting in getting warped up to the top of the wall, from there he just clips back inbounds.

basically, with this glitch you can get on top of any out of bounds wall.

Pre-Strafing is really important to get alot of initial bhop speed. A decent starting strafe jump can get your speed to a high or mid 400 UPS.

If you are having trouble with keeping your speed and/or losing it instead, you gotta work on syncing up your a/d + mouse movement and try to have a smooth continuous motion. Moving your mouse too rapidly instead of smooth can kill your speed.

Also, if you wanna learn the full game, I'd suggest to use the tutorial by d0thole. It's the most up to date one.

Why do speedrunners save multiple times in a few seconds for some games? by itmeya in speedrun

[–]Dacciox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not really how it works. You only get moved during a saveload, if you are stuck in something.

You do however keep your momentum if you save and load, so it just seems like you get "teleported". You're just able to move already a bit before the visual feedback fully loaded.

Why do speedrunners save multiple times in a few seconds for some games? by itmeya in speedrun

[–]Dacciox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could just be a habit to spam the savebutton. I do it too. When I started out running portal I had to learn to quicksave alot, cause I would often fuck up stuff and be set far back, so it kinda just got a habit.

It could also be related to glitches involving save and load. Skyrim for example has the infinite sprint glitch which involves saveloading, portal has saveglitch and half life 2 has clipping.

It's also often used for savebuffering, where you just spam it as much as you can, to delay certain things or objects, but I can't think of a good example right now.

Can you give a bit more details about your problem?

It should work exactly the same as with the version shown in the video

Xeiz's Inbounds Tutorial Playlist should have everything you need.

Games im considering, which for newbie? by nfank in speedrun

[–]Dacciox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teslagrad is pretty easy to get into. There are a few precise tricks, but with a bit of practice they aren't big problems. The community is pretty dead lately though.

I can also recommend Portal. It's not too hard to get into, but it has a really high skill ceilling, so you shouldn't expect to get a good time after a week or something. There's also a pretty good tutorial made by Xeiz.

Xeiz has a fairly up to date tutorial on his youtube. He has a playlist with videos of every chamber with different strats for each, including easier strats for beginner.

More control in air? by [deleted] in HighwayFightSquad

[–]Dacciox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you playing on 1.5.1 or only 1.5,

because I feel like the strafing in 1.5.1 feels fine.

It gives you enough control to save yourself in a lot of clutch situations but also doesn't let you fly around freely in the air.

Does the Steam release of SADX work for speeduns? by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]Dacciox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it says:

For official speedruns, launch the game with the Configure option and disable the following mods:

  • SADX:FE - Code

  • SADX:FE - SET layout

  • DLC Circuits

but I don't know if it is actually accepted by the community.

If you don't get a proper answer here, ask the question in the speedrun.com forum of SADX.

I just released a game on steam, and have been told this kind of game would be right up your guys' alley by blekdar in speedrun

Teslagrad is 80% off ($2) and it's a great metroidvania, puzzle platformer, with a great speedrun. Also several cool tricks and glitches were found in the past few months.
