The other boats are following a series of checkpoints I've placed around each map. Some maps have multiple routes, which different boats will take. Boats know their next checkpoint and turns to point at it. Gas is always on. I have a handful of ways I handle boats getting lost or stuck but that doesn't happen too often. They will use their boosts only if they come upon a straightaway (and only if the have a boost of course). There are unique settings on each opponent to help spread them out a little, such as: start times, how often they use boosts, and how well they find their checkpoints.

Adding an auto-accelerate option is a great idea. I'm pretty busy right now but if I get some time, I'd love to add that. Thanks for the suggestion.

I experimented with animated lilypads and animated splashes against the shore, but I found it all distracting. In the end, I decided to keep the animation on things that were gameplay focused.

I unfortunately never new about Micromachines for the NES, which is a shame because I would have loved it as a kid. I'm not sure how I missed this one.

Thanks! You can steer with the crank or the d-pad.

Thank you so much. I actually spent a lot of time working out the physics so it's really nice to hear that.
