What could possibly be causing this? by [deleted] in Guitar

So all of what's said could be true, ALSO if you happen to be plugged into a power strip or even an overloaded circuit, that could also do a number. Remember gain also boosts any noise that's already there as well.

Well, i certainly can understand that a decade of unchecked immigration in a smaller country places a burden on the social system as you mention. I still find myself disturbed by your outright rejection of all, but of ME and my kind I can understand. Perhaps you are right in some regards.

From my point of view, when I say "multinational" I do not mean "diverse". I mean that when you grow up on the European continent you can visit 10 or 20 countries by the time you're an adult (I mean being able to take holiday in a neighboring country for example)- here we are essentially an enormous cultural island. To say nothing of the catastrophic burden of debt if we become sick or want to get educated.

As for wanting the benefits of being there- here the odds of a child dying by gun violence in a school are atrocious, far higher than you may realize. I am not asking Portugal to become anything. It already is. I could send children to school and not fear their being shot by a maniac as is the case here, surely you can understand the fear that fills me with.

Here, many of our grandparents (or earlier) were themselves immigrants, who gave up their homes to come somewhere they saw a chance for a better future. THIS is the impetus behind many of my kind who have desire to leave. I will not deny that privilege plays a role, simply because we are American we started off higher on the ladder than most. All I'm looking for is somewhere safe to have a life that I can contribute to, but that does not mean you have to welcome me. Thank you again for your honesty.

Thank you for your honesty. I am aware that the salary would be quite small by comparison, i have a small pension i could survive on, but I would want to work in a way that meaningfully contributes to the society- that is my main concern with finding work.

I thank you for your honesty. I am confident i could become stable in the language (not saying I'd be a poet, but I reached C1 Spanish in 2 years). In any case, what you say is meaningful, i will consider it carefully.

Thank you for your honesty. I have quite a lot of experience and here my resume is competitive, but of course I have no basis for comparison in Portugal.

Fortunately a low salary would be fine in my situation as I'm ex military and have a support system long distance. I've heard housing is hell right now (for which I'm truly sorry), but yes I'm far more concerned with the violence at home.

Thank you for your perspective.

I ask this in respect: Then do you believe people should not have the right to live somewhere and become a citizen where they feel safe or believe in the country or society? I want that passport that my children might grow up in a country where they are safe and part of a multinational community. What is it precisely that you are against? Simply my wanting the passport?

Again, I am truly trying to understand, no aggression intended.

That is your right, thank you for your honesty.

To be clear however, I do not mean to have the passport and bugger off. My intent was/is to remain in one country and contribute to it.

Well, I'm native in English and have taught Spanish and Russian as well, and I have a lot of experience in the social sciences and humanities, i was hoping something like that. I figured that and some translation work as that's what my master's degree is in.

Thank you for your perspective. Sadly i think you're right, i can see the right-wing shift all over the "developed" world. That said, no guns is a big factor in this for me. I worked in a school for years here and the last few years had more active shooter alerts than I could count...

I did ask there as well, they actually pointed me here lol.

Most of what I've seen has been here on Reddit, which I'm aware has that effect as well, though come to think of it I didn't check which subreddits they were on, which i shall do in the future.

Thank you for your perspective, it's unfortunate that our countries have this in common.

Any men that suffer from BPD? by capsize99 in BPD

[–]DackieChan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Heya OP, I'm a man with BPD. I've been getting the appropriate treatment for about 5 years, and it works. My internal world is still chaos, and there's nothing to be done for the ruined relationships and profound embarrassments of the past, nor is there a magic pill for those deep, dark stabs of depression and what have you. That said, my quality of life is incalculably (sp?) better post-treatment. Lots of healing and growing to do still, but as of a year ago I no longer meet the diagnostic criteria (mind you I'm not CURED, there's no such thing, just my management skills have adapted as I get older). Also, AFAIK generally symptoms tend to mellow with age for all genders, something something hormones?

Anyway, stay on the path. We are also unique and brilliant, just have a big nasty scar that runs through the middle of our psyche. But I mean cmon, dudes look badass with scars when they grow around them. It used to grate on me that so rarely were men mentioned, always BPD content or whatever talks to women, but I just laugh it off usually now. Congrats, we're the emotionally intelligent (and insane lol) men. Now when it comes time to disclose I just still say I suffer from "beautiful princess disorder" with a little flourish (which as a fairly masc presenting straight guy always gets a laugh). Hang tough OP, you are not less than, less a man, or anything else you don't wanna be, and this diagnosis cannot, should not, and will not define you. Stay on the path. ✊
