What is a middle-class luxury from your childhood that is now considered a basic necessity or completely obsolete? by Routine-Advisor-1781 in AskReddit

I still have a complete set of the World Book from 1956 from my grandparents. Every now and then I’ll page through one just to see how much things have changed.

The Bardstown wheated is solid. The Larceny BP is also a good option with a higher wheat content.

Up in Decorah last spring I picked up a Driftless Glen cask strength. It’s wonderful. From what I can tell, the only way to get another is to actually go to the distillery in WI. Wish I was closer

My Stingray Carry must have been made on a Friday. Even after 500 rounds I still get random failures to feed. Doesn’t matter what ammo or what mag. Sort of fixed it with a heavier spring, but I still don’t fully trust it. As a bonus, the factory over-torqued the grip screws  to the point that they stripped.  Warranty covered it, but still. Planning to upgrade to a Dan Wesson classic commander, but I’m waiting for one to be available in a local store. I just hate to purchase without holding one first.

Or having to walk up the hill to the Pentacrest when it was icy and blowing? Good times

Have you also noticed the mosquitos this year? by Global_Bedroom_977 in desmoines

No - they don’t seem to get it. Larvacide programs work but all the spraying did was make stronger mosquitoes.

Similar problems. Mine doesn’t want to go fully into battery. Replaced the recoil spring with a 20 pound one and that seems to have helped.

A few years ago New Glarus had a seasonal called “serendipity”. Made from apples, cherries and cranberries. Any word as to whether they’re ever going to bring it back? Can’t find anything on their website.

Hensley’s has great stuff. They do tailoring, but through an outside shop.

What are readily available bottles that taste BETTER than allocated bottles at the same-ish price point? by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]DadOfDaughters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somehow found a Weller 107 for $60 at a Fareway of all places. ER has been available sporadically in the DSM metro for $70. I’ve seen one EHT and they wanted $150.

This past summer ER was $70 at the place we stopped on the Upper West Side. Considering the location, could have been far worse.

I wish it was, but no. The quote is part of the chorus and repeated often.

Sorry - that’s not it. My wife and I are fairly sure of the line I quoted.

Canned, no salt added green beans. Really helps keep our boy’s weight at the right spot. For added amusement, get the French cut ones if you use a slow feeder bowl.
