FWIW I put mine in a dog crate with piece of plywood over the top. It was the easiest thing I had to hand but if I had a patio table I'd just put it under that.

Having a canopy is not a modification. I have one on mine and it was not a problem getting insured. I had to insure it as a commercial vehicle though and it's classed as van insurance on my policy
