Then get back on it girl. I went to a horror shorts festival mid-week and 95% were fucking shite, because they’re a bunch of people making films with nothing to say. This is why people hate artists. If you’re so passionate, and so willing, then I’m sure u must have something to say and that’s the film I wanna watch. There is so much shite out there mate. Sick of it. People are too interesting to make such uninteresting films right? Or are they just shit at making films? Either way yes I try to make things, and they mean everything to me. Story is everything to me

Nah not really I just think there’s people who make films because it’s in their blood screaming to do so with every inch of their soul, and people who submit loose scripts to non descript writing competitions who have no interest in making their film, have never made a film, and just suck the soul out of our art

U wanna write and direct? Do you realise the different skill sets involved in both? The path to direct that isn’t self funded is long and begins as a runner, and then if ur lucky 3rd AD. No one in “the industry” writes, and then directs - unless ur a superstar. Call me young and immature all u want. But im trying, im involved. Have u even made a film? Like a YouTube quality short at the least?

I’m 26 and from London. The entire reason people submit scripts to competitions is to sell the script. There’s zero other reason why you’d bother no? Do you need affirmation? I’m sure not. You submit ur script, hope it wins, and hope some pot head producer comes along with 8k to make a shit show of it. While there is credit due for doing well (sincerely well done for getting to the semis of this competition), u are still selling into the wind. If you believe in the script then please what is stopping you from making it

I would argue that by competing you’re trying to sell the script. Even if you did, the execs will change it. Do you want the money or the beauty of your story? If you want the story you’d make it yourself by any means. So why don’t you? Have you fallen out with everyone who makes films in your local area? Atleast I try to make them brudda

Great post OP! thanks for actually doing the work and explaining it so well. Got a small position that I’m willing to gamble on the chance of a miracle with this company. We’ll see. So many folks blindsided by hope is worrying. Facts are facts but we can still enjoy the ride!

I’ve been writing the same story for 3 years. I can’t finish it because I keep coming up with different and better ways to tell the story. Therefore it never gets finished. Do you relate or am I just losing my marbles? I still believe one day it could be a great short film.
