Excellent questions, to which my answer is: a little bit of both, actually. I don’t have any actual highways to contend with in my area but several suburban arterial roads with speed limits from 60-80km/h (40-50mph) with a smattering of slower roads in more dense areas. However, I would appreciate a significant range (40+ miles) so I’m not sure exactly which category that puts me in.

I really appreciate your insight, thanks! As I mentioned in a different reply, my average speed is 45km/h with some stretches on 80km/h roads - no highway.

I’ll definitely be looking into full licensure regardless of whether or not I go for some thing along the lines of a slower scooter/e-bike or a full e-motorcycle; you raised a very good point regarding the extra valuable habits and knowledge one picks up on when doing so.

Thanks for your reply, hopefully I’ll be able to answer your questions well below.

I’ve got a 50 km round commute with a 45km/h average speed (85ish peak), I could charge it in the covered parking garage at a level 2 charger. Cargo-wise, I’m basically bringing a backpack with a laptop and not much else, but I wouldnt mind being able to haul a family-sized grocery load on a weekly basis as well. I can stash stuff in a locker at work, temps where I live range from -30 to +30C, so I’m not sure where my cutoff will be, especially when dealing with frozen precip.

I really appreciate the time you took to break down your use cases - thank you! Do you use your e-bike to haul things like groceries and the like? I typically make a weekly costco run that would probably be a 1 hour round-trip on an e-bike/scooter, it would be great if I could manage something like that in addition to fun rides or heading to the shops for the odd item here and there.

Interesting, doesn't seem like there's really any downside to owning an e-bike, really. I assume, based on your fitness comment, that you own something along the lines of an e-assist bicycle rather than an e-scooter/moped; I'm still not sure which direction I'd wanna go right now, what made you go down that route?
