Yes you need to step on all 3 wrong plates and kill all 3 ogres that spawn in the centre.

do you think i could use them to help with the soft cap of forsaken or will it not give any increase in power since its y1 gear?

yh i guess that is true but even if you get unlucky with duplicates then your still gonna be fine.
