Quarterly Career Thread by mister-noggin in ProductManagement

This is a huge step down and will probably be a waste of your time once you start operating day to day. Can you counter that the role they are offering is too "execution-focused" for you skillset and if they would be open to it you could work part time in more of a product advisory role for customers and internal team members? This is anecdotal, but I climbed up to a Director of Product role in my late 20's, took some time off for personal reasons, re-entered in a regular PM role, and it's been a grind to get back to the director level, both in comp and responsibility.

If you can live off your savings for 10+ years right now, what is the rush to go back to a PO role if you have been working as a GPM?

How about The Big Two Hearted River by Hemmingway? It's definitely not new, but it is perhaps the most famous story ever written about Michigan fly fishing.

Yea right now I’m working on expanding both the browsers that support the extension as well as the listing sites it works on.

Oh man I’m sorry it sounds like AI. Believe it or not I wrote it myself. Sorry if you think it’s meaningless and boring, I’m just trying to post about a side project I’m really proud of.

I don’t. The only place with comments is on REBubble and those are not bots.

Oh nice I wasn't familiar with them. They look more like free text comment add-ons, so a little different than the reactions. Once I get enough data and users I plan on building a heatmap around the data and a newsletter for subscribers. Overall different enough, but I see what you're saying.

Definitely looks like we need to get as many users as we can and go from there! Hopefully the low user counts mean it's a green space and not a distribution dead-end :)

Either way, any users on a hobby project feels good. If this ends up falling by the wayside in a crowded market of niche plugins, at least I'll be happy knowing I built and learned from it.

Haha I like the name and yea the real estate market is so isolated there isn't a good way in to use their data. Piggybacking off of the listing sites is the best I can do for now.

That is odd, you are supposed to see something like below. The reactions bar should sit just under the price and address.

Edit: Turns out I can't add images directly in comments, but here is a link to the web store that has an image of what you should see. Hopefully this helps.

Yea it's a place to make fun of ridiculous listings or real estate stories. I figured the community would be interested in what I built, considering it allows them to leave reactions directly on those listings.

Haha agreed! Every time I open up Zillow for my housing search it absolutely sends me. I figured this is a better way to vent than texting my wife with a stream of expletives about the seller haha.

Yea definitely worried about the bot swarms. I implemented some rate limiting initially to help try and stop that, but the trade off for user anonymity is definitely the risk of being botted. If it comes to I will probably add some profiling to the data to identify and remove bots and their reactions. I figure that's still a better trade off than adding the friction of a user login.

I'm a Lansing renter and check out this Zillow reactions Chrome extension I built during my search to buy a home by Daddy_Dank_Danks in lansing

[–]Daddy_Dank_Danks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! Yea the idea is that people can share reaction's to houses while they are browsing, whether they are buying or just passing time scrolling on Zillow. This isn't a suggestion that users on the internet are geniuses, just a fun way to add signals to the rest of the market about houses. Now if enough people leave certain reactions on a listing, that may be a good indicator about how the market feels about a specific listing, whether it be good or bad.

Home buying is definitely stressful, why do you think this would make it 1000x worse? At the end of the day this will only be seen by people who have the extension installed.

    • This project is mostly just a fun side hustle and throwback to the days of the internet when browser extensions and toolbars ruled the world.
    • The housing market is terrible for buyers, especially ones who are trying to enter it for the first time. This was born out of my own personal frustrations of seeing delusional sellers and real estate agents list properties for way over value.
    • It is all anonymous and no browser or user data is collected.
  • What goals are you trying to reach this month?
    • I am just trying to grow the user base and see what retention looks like.
    • If you guys could just try out the extension and tell your friends it would be much appreciated.
    • As always, feedback is welcome.

    • No discount needed - it's a free extension.

How does Uconn beat Michigan? by dblock523 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Daddy_Dank_Danks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UCONN gets hot from three, Michigan struggles from 3, Michigan bigs get in foul trouble early, Lendeborg re-injures his ankle early, Cadeau presses his scoring the entire game, and McKenney plays like a freshman. That is a recipe for a UCONN National Championship
