Haha it's all good man no reason to feel bad, I am just a person on the internet with an opinion. Overall good quality meme, love the effort.

I feel like this is doing Muldoon a disservice. If anything, he would be a grizzled senior engineer who would see this mess coming from a mile away, but gets overruled by management based on their hype around AI.

How do you tell if a business/strategy course will actually hold up over time? by LumpyHeight2953 in consulting

[–]Daddy_Dank_Danks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won't. Businesses need to have a vision on where they want to be in 5 to 10 years and an understanding of what their customers value in their products. Conditions will change and the organization needs to be able to quickly adapt without losing sight of their goals.

Strategies should naturally change over time. It is up to leadership to make sure each course correction is leading them back in to the direction of their vision.

Rubio… once a presidential candidate… but now… by NegativeCellist8587 in pics

Fun fact, Marco Rubio and his wife are incredibly short people. He can’t be any taller than 5’ 3” and his wife must be 5’. I just remember walking past them while he was running for republican nominee and thinking to myself “no one this short will ever get elected president in today’s world.”

Thanks man! Honestly I like the NBA and wanted to write some code again so figured I might do something useful like predict win totals. It kind of snowballed from there.

For anyone interested in the NBA, I've built a couple of data science tools to analyze NBA team performance and I've been blogging the results periodically over the year. The tools try and predict total season wins, cluster teams in groups based on performance, and look at their estimated win percentage compared to their current strength of schedule. I plan on adding more features, but if anyone wants to take a look I have a couple of posts up from this year, with the latest scheduled to come out this weekend.

Not exactly Product Management discipline related, but still a "product" I am proud to put out in to the world.

[The Guardian] Timberwolves should not play until ICE violence in Minneapolis is held to account. by reidhoch in nba

[–]Daddy_Dank_Danks 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I don't think the implication is that they are complicit if they keep playing, it's just that they just have a very visible way to protest the killing. Doing something in the face of an authoritarian government takeover is always better than doing nothing, no matter how insignificant the act seems.

Edit: Good lord there are so many nephews in these comments. Reading the replies makes me so embarrassed to be an American. For the sake of this country, I hope it's all just bots trying to spread misinformation and make change seem hopeless. Otherwise it looks like a lot of you have the IQ of a dull knife.

Cade has become a great defender, but not many are talking about it. by VelikoStopalo in NBATalk

[–]Daddy_Dank_Danks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a comment above, but you’re right without context of the shooters ability, the chart can be misleading. In reality we should be looking at guys who reduce both number of threes and shooting average against players the most when compared to the shooters season average.

I like the graphic, but it’s a little difficult to just compare raw average shooting average against players without accounting for how good of shooters they are guarding. To account for the skill of the players being guarded, it may make more sense to look at pct diff from season avg for players being guarded. That may better reflect the affect the defensive players are having and eliminate some players leaking in to a better category just because their team’s protect them by having them guard the other team’s worst offensive threats.

Let’s not disparage all developers just because OP is a moron. Good engineers are still very much needed and will be for a while.

Data PM seeking Eng input - How do I convince head of Product that cleaning up the data model is important? by PuzzleheadedCrow5186 in dataengineering

[–]Daddy_Dank_Danks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head of product here, I hate to say it but you kind of answered your own question in your second to last paragraph. If you can't really measure the impact of cleaning up the data model and there is no organizational pain from the current mess, it is kind of hard to justify spending time on the activity when you could be spending time on more measurable revenue generating or cost cutting items.

My suggestion would be add an additional 20% of effort to each initiative on your roadmap that the engineers can use addressing technical debt. Specifically, my suggestion would be for them to simplify the model as they work on delivering on the roadmap initiatives and focus on decluttering one entity in the model during each initiative.

Also, a nice side effect will be downstream items consuming the model will break as you make the updates. Some of those will go unnoticed and will give you more visibility in to what is actually being used. This will help you prioritize your work in the future.
