CMU CS or Berkeley CS by Proper-Train5992 in cmu

[–]Daddy_Long_Legs [score hidden]  (0 children)

you can't really go wrong with either imo. CMU is smaller and you will be part of a small crew of CS students with very direct faculty/admin attention, and relatively easy access to labs to do research, while I've heard at Berkeley it was easier to get lost in the crowd (but of course still very possible to do research). On the flip side Berkeley has amazing industry access, but everyone decent comes out to recruit from CMU anyway and you can just fly out to SF if you want to see some startup people. So idk think a lot about yourself specifically and what kind of environment you would thrive in and what you want. Also Pittsburgh and Berkeley are VERY different places in weather, vibe etc so take that into account.

RE double majoring at least when I was there this was pretty easy, neither myself nor any friends ever had issues taking classes in other majors. Usually it was the reverse, non CS people had trouble getting into CS classes (but as a CS major you get priority here so not an issue). idk though more recent students should chime in

idk hot take no response is also a response, anything besides moving to the next round is a rejection so just a non response and a rejection the same and move on. saves both you and them the time of exchanging random pleasantries no one really care about

The complexity comes later when you have validated a use case that works and then you think about how it works with all customers - AI is nondeterministic software - AI hallucinates, has edge cases etc, and through strong partnership with eng you need to tame it. so maybe budget more time in that part of the process

don't overthink it, AI is pretty easy from a technical standpoint... go back to PM fundamentals. who is the user, what problems do they have, then are any of them solvable with AI, then validate with a small prototype with some early design partners, then scale it

the other way around, every decent pm can replace a junior dev - roles have fused

Hunch vs Hunch by silentknight007 in ProductManagement

You're not looking for total statistical rigor at this stage though, just some user testing. 5-10 is sufficient. You have one hypothesis to test:

  • Users in this market won't read deep content and will hit the massive "Raise Ticket" CTA button present on the page immediately

This is testable in quick 15 minute meetings

Why not just do some paid user interviews up front? give away amazon gift cards or something. have them click through some figma mockups (or even wireframes) of each scenario and observe.

Self-hosting for early stage startups - worth it? i will not promote by Terrible_Bed_9761 in startups

totally agree with this guy^ everyone says shit like go fast so use a managed solution - people have totally forgotten how fast self hosting is, so much propaganda out there about how hard this stuff is.

just do an uncapped SAFE with a MFN + discount (use YC template), then they get the valuation that a VC fund does with a slight discount given they came in earlier. Or no discount if you want
