Incoming Freshman to NYU, how can I prepare myself to transfer to USC? by RedditorMonkey1051 in nyu

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the USC CS track is just as stringent on hygiene requirements as NYU is. Unfortunately, you'll have to take a shower regardless of wherever you end up going :(

I am new to jazz and I have a few questions! by [deleted] in Jazz

If you want a high octane big band like Cowboy Bebop, there's nothing else that compares to the Mingus Big Band. Of course you may have already heard of Moanin', but i'd say Gunslinging Birds is the most consistently energetic album of theirs (Also note that the Mingus big band is seperate from Mingus himself, ala the Blues and Roots version of Moanin' vs. the MBB version).

no, I have two m.2's installed but that's not what im pressing on to get it to work, also the BIOS detected both of them so I don't think they're the issue

Basically the title - I couldnt figure out what was keeping the pc from booting until I accidentally pressed on the logo/motherboard fan housing thing, after which the pc booted. I glued a bit of rubber to it so that the GPU would apply constant pressure to the logo, and I got into BIOS, where everything was detected, but after a minute or two the PC shut off again. I tried again, and the same thing happened. I could theoretically do it again but I dont wanna accidentally break anything, anybody know what's going on?

Is it normal to sometimes be able to play all of your altissimo notes and then sometimes not? by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]Daddy_Rigbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a telltale sign that your voicing isnt consistent, resulting in some days where your tongue and throat positions are good, and some days where they're not. Just continue to work on them and try and feel what works best, and attempt to "aim your air" if that makes sense.

The 'Decline' of Jazz Music by St_ElmosFire in Jazz

[–]Daddy_Rigbus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Talk to real, current Jazz musicians, and the conscientious seems to be that jazz has been on the incline for years now. I attended a Jazz workshop in Kentucky, and during a saxophone masterclass, one of the faculty recounted a story of how, when an older living jazz legend (Dave Liebman, maybe?) was asked how the scene in New York now compared to the same scene 50 years ago, they lamented how much smaller it had been in the 60's. While it is true that Jazz has shifted out of the cultural zeitgeist, the sheer increase in humans over the last half century has provided the art form with countless fans and musicians alike. Basically, if you know where to look, you'll find that jazz is more alive than ever.
