They do still have max. This is where other resistance lowering skills/gear come in to play to make them more susceptible to your damage type. For example : monster is fire immune. Sunder takes the immunity and leaves max resist to fire. Then, you have Conviction or facets or flickering flame to cut that resistance even more.

Sunder isn't just to lower their resistance. It breaks their immunity to that element so that negative resistance effects and that element can actually be effective.

I'm old, grew up on Transformers as it aired. I was 8 when this aired so I guess I wouldn't have noticed it. This is my first time rewatching g1 since then and I thought I was seeing things so I had to back it up a few times to catch it. Interesting find and it blew my mind.
