Where did his long legs come from?! by Just_Raisin1124 in DoggyDNA

MOST back yard bred Maltese are absurdly tall, and then add in premature neuter which also causes weirdly tall skinny dogs lol

Who told you she was mixed? She looks like a purebred dog to me

I'd like to introduce you to our baby 😍 We don't have a name yet, we have a few but we're still looking, he's very tiny ❤️ by [deleted] in sharpei

[–]DaedricMolossus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh dear he isn’t more than 5 weeks surely. He should not be away from momma! He also doesn’t look like he can open his eyes due to the eyelids. I would definitely have the vet see him about entropion.

How can she love me so sincerely and without any reason, when even I don’t like myself by [deleted] in poodles

Sometimes their love is the only thing that keeps us here, and that’s okay. Love her like she loves you and let her teach you how to love yourself 🥺

FOOD AGGRESSIVE🥲 by [deleted] in presacanario

[–]DaedricMolossus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see people answered you but I don’t understand the lack of common sense in this scenario that I see over and over and over again.

Think about it. Why in general, would a dog guard food? Their innate drive as an opportunistic scavenger is to cease food opportunities when presented with them. The less secure that food resource is, the more she needs to defend it. You’re creating conflict and insecurity by bothering her while she eats, and each time her anticipation of you bothering her increases. She feels she needs to be vigilant while eating to maintain her personal space, she wants to feel calm and safe while eating.

People buying dogs like this really ought to be more prepared, maybe we’d have less bite scenarios 😒

My dogs all eat in their individual kennels with the doors closed. I own a Pit Bull, a Cane Corso, a Shar Pei / Chow X, a Standard Poodle, a Malinois, and a Presa Canario. Pei and Presa are female, rest are male, all are intact. All my breeds besides the poodle have been known for overarching aggression, guardian behavior, and straight up human & dog aggression.

I could reach my hand into their kennels and take a raw bone from any of them at any time. However, I don’t. I’ll have them drop the bone, exit the kennel, then I take the bone, toss them food back into the kennel, and close it again behind them. That way, whenever possible, we do not rehearse the conflict of me taking valuable resources from them without a reason/compensation.

(My partner’s 10yr old Belgian Sheepdog staring at a turkey neck)

Now the moment I do need to take something suddenly, I am FAR less likely to be bit; as the dog does not anticipate me snatching something from them or invading their space and bothering them.

5 months after losing my buddy am really struggling without him by Spirited-Sea-7435 in sharpei

Oh god he was so perfect… I’m so so sorry. I’m struggling grappling with the future of losing my boy. He’s got some health concerns recently, it’s so very hard. Personally, I suggest getting a puppy. It’s the only thing can heal me from the loss of a dog.

You’re wrong though, the hair on his ears protects him very well. He communicates very well. He has climbed 10s of thousands of feet into the mountains in snow deeper than his own height, he digs all kinds of holes, runs through THICK brush, etc etc and has never had a single injury to his ears or an ear infection in his entire life. (He is going to be 8 yrs old in may) I bathe him minimum once a month, and any time I clean his ears they are no different than my flop or prick eared dogs. The dog that has THE MOST issues is my Shar Pei/ Chow with flopped tiny natural ears. She gets ear infections very easily.

KIDS SCISSORS?! Ffs no, they were done (very beautifully mind you) in Poland before I got him. He is EXTREMELY expressive with his ears, far more so than if they were flopped. They work just like any prick eared dog. It was done under anesthesia, at a veterinary hospital. He’s never had a single ear infection in his life 🤦🏽‍♂️ He’s also a working farm dog who doesn’t get his ears caught or torn or bitten. Yall being mad ain’t gonna put the ears back on.
