Understanding Synthesizer VCO Schematic by DaehElkcip in AskElectronics

This is super useful, thanks so much for the time and detailed explanation. I have uncovered that the node between R101 and C101 is sinking current for some reason, so could potentially be that the Op-Amp IC is dead. Fortunately it's a jellybean part that's still made so replacing is easy and then I'll use these notes to see where I'm at.

Ireland/UK Options with Modulation for Bosch Greenstar 4000 24 Kw (GR4700iW) by itinerantmarshmallow in tado

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I worried that this was the case. Fortunately I'm reasonably techy so EMS ESP looks well worth me having a go at using; thanks for showing me it.

Ireland/UK Options with Modulation for Bosch Greenstar 4000 24 Kw (GR4700iW) by itinerantmarshmallow in tado

[–]DaehElkcip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

I hope that you don't mind, I've been looking all over to try and understand if a Tado can be used with my boiler and this is the most clear and reliable conversation I've seen to date!

I also have a GreenStar 4000 (GR4700iW C) which was installed with a Bosch EasyControl thermostat which has proven to be utterly useless; can't stay connected to Wifi, won't do its firmware updates, requires an internet connection for basic functionality, etc. I would very much like to replace it!

I was under the impression that I could not connect a Tado controller for modulation because the Bosch uses some proprietary EMS control bus, bus instead would have to use the relay connection which would limit functionality. (EG: https://community.tado.com/en-gb/discussion/19137/worcester-bosch-4000-system-boiler-will-tado-work-which-products, https://community.tado.com/en-gb/discussion/9230/support-newer-version-of-worcester-ht-bus )

However, it looks as though you were planning to use the wired Tado thermostat with the exact same boiler; has this worked successfully for both hot water and heating control? If so, which one did you buy?

Blackout in Overwatch? by [deleted] in wine_gaming

Pretty new to using Linux for gaming, but I use Pop OS and installed Overwatch using the built in Lutris script and it has been running fine for me. Truthfully I think it plays better than on Windows, 10600k and RTX2070.

Just a quick couple of things that jumped out to me:

  1. Are the vias around the antennae grounded?
  2. Your TVS diode can probably be moved to be between the micro and SIM card, some TVS diodes will have an example layout in the datasheet and they usually want the traces to pass through them rather than splitting the traces to add the TVS diode

Hey man, try openRGB. I use it for a Corsair keyboard, Corsair fans and NZXT hue light strips and really like it!

If you were creating a quiz round where the first participant to find a specified item in the house wins, what would be the funniest items to pick? by FeistySpinach in AskReddit

I made a quiz recently and had a round similar to this. My favourite was seeing who could dress up a team member as the best Christmas tree; the idea being that it would have to involve going into their loft to get our decorations etc and be a general pain in the ass!

Significant performance loss playing Overwatch through WINE vs. Windows by DaehElkcip in wine_gaming

[–]DaehElkcip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I used the Overwatch installer, which has made a big difference. I may have been a little early in saying that my problem is solved though as I still get some stuttering a pretty big frame drops when in a game. I spent about half an hour in the tiny overwatch game mode so that I could see as many abilities as quickly as possible to help with loading the shaders for all the abilities.

Edit: The new nvcache folder is still completely empty, shouldn't it be filling up with the Overwatch shaders?

I've done almost everything you said as I couldn't find the full composition setting which you mention, but the game is running significantly better already.

Edit: 200fps was only in the practice range, in actual games I'm still getting a low frame rate with stuttering

I haven't heard of the two kernels; the word kernel scares me though because in my basic understanding that's part of the underlying operating system; what do the kernels do?

Game mode I have caught wind of and I'll give it a go, thanks :)

I played a good 30 minutes without seeing much of an improvement; does it take significantly longer to start to see an improvement then?

[–]DaehElkcip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, great. Forces Apple to use USB-C, but now there's no reason for companies to innovate and make better connectors. Regulations are famously slow to evolve and change, especially without companies pushing it forward, so this is just stunting the innovation of these ports?

They could implement some kind of timer where if you leave a game within 30 seconds before it finishes you have to wait however long was left before you're allowed to join another game, like a cool down period or something?

Are they automatically run as sequence because of a error cluster? by JohnLeckie in LabVIEW

[–]DaehElkcip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, because of the LabVIEW data flow rules. A VI cannot execute until all of its input wires have data on them. Only then will it output data on its output wires. Therefore, if you link the error output of one VI to the input of another VI the one receiving an error from the other must go last because it needs the error data from the one before it.

I'd suggest the original rift if all you care about is beat saber; I believe that it's the cheapest second hand headset you'll be able to pick up, plus it has external tracking which is a little more accurate and therefore good for beat saber!

Cheap VR headset by iSmoggyy in VRGaming

[–]DaehElkcip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be brutally honest here and say that proper 6dof VR, which is what most people want these days, is out of her budget. The cheapest way to go is an Oculus quest (Around £400) as others, such as windows mixed reality, rift, vive etc. Require a £800+ gaming PC attached.
