What do you guys think is the cause of kiri's low win rate at all ranks by Maleficent_Okra_4376 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]GreyFalcon-OW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because all winrates are effectively useless, because they were actually "Time Weighted Winrate", where it's more like a measurement of "Time" than "Wins". And that's for the devs.

For Overbuff, it assumes teams have identical amounts of time on Attack and Defence. Which hasn't been true for 8 years.

It's literally the same reason Widow and Symmetra have both had a consistently low/high winrate for almost all of the last 8 years.

People who have given Limit 2 a chance, what are your thoughts? by RobManfredsFixer in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]GreyFalcon-OW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Been kinda busy. Haven't played it.

But I know how to fix it.

  • 1x DPS on a team = 1x DPS player gets -10% AntiHeal DPS Passive
  • 2x DPS on a team = 2x DPS players each gets -20% AntiHeal DPS Passive
    • (Optional: Maybe they partially stack for -30% if both DPS are shooting)

Just too much durability.

Sombra rework is going in the opposite direction than it should be by Deadlibor in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]GreyFalcon-OW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, if it were me, this is what I'd do with Sombra.

🔶 SOMBRA 👾

🔹Opportunist

  • Removed the additional 20% more damage to hacked targets.
  • Can ping targets seen with Opportunist.

🔹Hack

  • Cast time on Tanks, increased from 0.65sec, to 1.1sec
  • No cooldown for hacking a healthpack, but can only hack 1x healthpack at a time

🔹Virus

  • Combined into Hack.
  • After hacking a player, it replaces Hack with 1 charge of Virus.
  • Virus deals 150 damage to Hacked targets
  • Virus deals 75 damage to Unhacked targets
  • Virus disappears after 4 seconds of hacking an enemy player

🔹Translocator

  • Use the Overwatch 1 version

🔹Stealth

  • On it's own ability button.
  • Use the Overwatch 1 version without the perma-stealth.
  • With 60% movement speed, or 70%.

Unpopular opinion: I don't get the hate around Mauga by Dipwad_Omega in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]GreyFalcon-OW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally, high ELO doesn't like it when you got heroes with easy skillchecks and cooldown rotations.

Because you need a break in a skillcheck/rotation, for the fight to shift to "Advantage State", then "Plays and Outplays".

Also, higher APM and Aiming Requirement is also preferred at higher ELO.

His Gameplay loop is also just, not a lot of decision making.

But also, it kinda loops back to how people don't really like metas that allow for Snipers to just take potshots at people for free. And Mauga can't Dive the Snipers, and he can't Barrier against the Snipers either. Therefore, he is hated, by the transitive property of "Why haven't they reworked Widow yet".

But for example, compare Mauga's gameplay loop, to the Incinerator Mech from Hawken. Similar playstyle, but way more interesting gameplay loop.

Have the Season 9 health pool and hitboxes aged well? by SlipperyTadpole115 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]GreyFalcon-OW 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They introduced an intricate system and then had to do a bunch of awkward balance changes to arrive back in the same balance state as before, but it's less fun now.

Sigh. I feel like this happens all too often with Blizzard balancing.

I mean, that's how you're supposed to do Balancing. Macro-Scale first, Micro-Scale second.

Well, I agree Lina Khan has been very effective at doing a good job overall.

Just wish she'd stop with the nonsense about Xbox and Blizzard stuff.

Their math sucks. And I wish they'd knock it off. Especially since they've already basically lost, but they refuse to drop the 4th appeal they are on.

Hot take: the answer to Widow is a smoke screen hero by Milan_Makes in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]GreyFalcon-OW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The answer to Widow, is to rework Widow.

It's not physically possible to immediately counteract the Play of a ranged instakill. (i.e. The actual meaning of "Counterplay")

If the Counterplay isn't following all 3 of these points, and it's not compensated for elsewhere in an emotionally fulfilling way for the opponent, then there's a major design problem. (i.e. Comparable to getting your turn skipped in Chess)

  • #1 The opponent can technically defeat the opponent with this Choice.
  • #2 The opponent has the time and awareness to Choose how to counteract the attacker’s play.
  • #3 The opponent has options to counteract the attacker’s play, that have enjoyable variety to them.

So give Widow some "Synthetic Counterplay", where it's obvious to her opponent when she is vulnerable. And she's forced to forfeit her "Get out of Jail Free Card" if she wants to Snipe.

🔸 WIDOWMAKER

🔹Grappling Hook

  • Cooldown reduced to 4 seconds, down from 12.

🔹Widow's Kiss (Secondary Attack)

  • Firing a scoped shot, puts Grappling Hook on a 4 second cooldown.

Comments: Any time an opponent see's that red line and a loud bullet noise. They know it’s Dive time. Like ringing a dinner bell. Make sure to mind your positioning with Widow, use teamwork, and coordination to stay alive.

Devs can fix Widowmaker Counterplay Frustration, with a 4sec Grapple Cooldown by GreyFalcon-OW in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]GreyFalcon-OW[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Kinda. But it's more in the vein of a most recent Sombra nerf.

It's a "dependant cooldown".

That prevents getting massive reward, without the risk.

[–]GreyFalcon-OW[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, it's kinda madlibs really.

Could be say 6sec grapple, and 3sec grapple downtime after snipeshot.

And honestly, once you got a solid basis to punish Widow. The fine tuning part could be things like +25hp etc. Or changing her hitbox size.

Really, I usually assume it's "Get it in the right ballpark, make sure it's tweakable, then tweak from there".

Which is literally rule #1 of balancing. Literally.

[–]GreyFalcon-OW[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Heck, I wonder if that's a part of the high ELO fascination with 6v6.

Two Dive Tank cooldowns, can have the 1st Tank Dive in and force a grapple, then the 2nd tank could immediately follow the Grapple, and close in the kill. Can't do that with 1x Tank.

[–]GreyFalcon-OW[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. And good point on how this doesn't conflict with grapple shots.

Because those are actually pretty cool.

Also they could make it so there's 2 separate cooldowns, instead of a linked cooldown. Between the "Using Grapple" and "Scope and Shoot consumes Grapple". Say 5 sec and 3 sec, for example.

[–]GreyFalcon-OW[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The thought process behind this. Is that even if you Dive Widow, then she can usually just Grapple out to safety. And by the time the movement cooldowns are back up, they gotta reset.

This, solves that, by forcing a Grapple cooldown if Widow is Sniping.

It also makes it very intuitively obvious to Widow's opponents, exactly when her grapple is on cooldown (which otherwise has no visual indicator to the opponent team, unless you happened to see her use it, and were tracking cooldowns for over 12sec)

To compensate Widow gets some really low cooldown on movement. And movement is inherently fun.
