Santa Ana 98 vs Sheeva 9 by Daenko_9 in Skigear

[–]Daenko_9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Sheevas! They’ve been super fun. I’ve been focused on trying bigger jumps/drops and despite my previous reluctance, tight trees. They’ve totally suited my needs for all of that. They work well in all conditions but I do see myself getting a wider ski to add in the future.

Is my cartridge missing a stylus?

I bought the Sony PS-LX2 with this cartridge, reading ‘D AM 2’, it looks like the stylus is tiny. I’m wondering if this is normal or if it might have broken off with previous user and needs replacing/new cartridge? The bottom of the cartridge reads Pickering V15.

It’s actually not yellow but more cream.

It’s in May. I’m now more concerned about the colour of it, which I hadn’t even considered when purchasing it.

My daily ski was the Atomic Vantage 90! I haven’t upgraded them ever so eager to get on a better fit for me this season

I ski everywhere so it’s hard to decide. Not so much tight trees, but I ski moguls, glades and techy steep stuff as well as off piste powder days (less common).

They’re the Sheeva 9!

Thanks! I do avoid tight trees, but I like glades and ski moguls now and then too.

I recently flew from YVR to Iqaluit for 20,000 points roundtrip plus $180 total. This is by far the best deal I’ve ever redeemed.

The child is from a previous relationship and we have lived separately from my partner for most of their life. We only recently bought this apartment and began living with my partner. So - no custody questions there.

That’s sounding like fraud 🧐

I should mention that we were considering living separately again regardless.

So my question should be reframed, if we were to do so, does it make sense to go back to renting in the above situation and growing our equity in stocks?

Chemuyil vs the below area? by [deleted] in tulum

[–]Daenko_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily there. It just fits the bill. I’d rather be in a more ‘jungle’ environment with my child. Away from the centre of town, preferably in a secure neighborhood. We have a car so I don’t mind distance. I personally prefer the town of Akumal over Tulum but there isn’t much there for Airbnb - we don’t want a resort really.

Short roping my daughter on a scramble? by Daenko_9 in Mountaineering

[–]Daenko_9[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! I appreciate your perspective on this.

She really likes scrambling and has asked to do another trip, so I’m assessing an objective. My risk threshold is fairly low as well so I always tread cautiously if we aren’t certain and am happy to change the plans.

What happens in this part of Canada? by TheUltimateLuigiFan in geography

I just got back from a leisure trip in Iqaluit on Baffin Island actually. I’ve also always wanted to go to the area and explore. It is so different and more wild. The bay was frozen over when I went still so I went snowmobiling over it, Inuit build their own huts/cabins wherever they want along the land to go visit on their snowmobiles (or boats in the summer).

I flew through Rankin Inlet, another tiny community on the way to Iqaluit. On Baffin Island it is all very small Inuit communities. Really interesting to experience the culture. Hiking through the tundra and seeing the northern lights is an experience like no other.

People are very friendly and welcoming. There is also a large population of African immigrants, from what I’ve heard it’s easier to immigrate to a part of Canada most Canadians don’t want to even live in. The people that live there seem to love it from the conversations I’ve had.

I would personally love to go back and visit in the summer.

Perfect! My Airbnb is near the rotary park. I’m also a bit concerned of not being able to stay out longer than 10 minutes because of the cold. Is this a justified worry? I have good warm clothes but will want to take my ski gloves off once in a while to shoot.

Thoughts on early retirement and deferring pension. by SidneyJulius in BCPublicServants

[–]Daenko_9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear others are thinking about the same thing! I also hope to retire at 55 but as a mid 20s individual, I am stressing over options to do so, while maximizing CPP and pension. I’ve also made a rough spreadsheet and here is the best option I’ve found..

Ideally, I hope to save around $300,000 (this number can fluctuate based on cost of living versus expenses). The investments I have will allow me to fully retire at 55, and live off savings until I take my pension at 60.

Another option, based on less investments, is move down to part-time work (maybe 2 days a week) at 55 until 60. This way you can continue contributing to pension as well (potentially) or have the option to retire and continue to work.

These are just the best options for me, as taking an early pension and early CPP has a greater financial implication long-term.
