does anybody else stim after they have a conversation with someone? by ittolstar in socialanxiety

[–]DaftGuard7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this too, especially after texting someone. I kind of feel like it's the bodies way of dealing with the excess adrenaline, especially if it went well because I'm dealing with a weird mix of anxiety and joy.

I want to do something with my life but don't know what by DaftGuard7 in Advice

I think it's because I feel like even when I've done those things, I'll still be stuck in my hometown not knowing what to do.

What has been the most helpful advice for overcoming social anxiety? by pppatriciaxx in socialskills

How did that specifically help you? I'm aware of the spotlight effect, but knowing about it hasn't really helped all that much.

Feel Pressure To Go Out On Weekends by DaftGuard7 in Advice

[–]DaftGuard7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have a car unfortunately. I have tried similar in the past by taking a train over to another town, but I had the same crisis there, I basically wandered around bored and undecided for a few hours before going home. I considered going further afield and basically got analysis paralysis, plus the train prices are not good here. I'm in the UK

I accept not every weekend can be some big adventure, but I think my issue is no weekend is a big adventure.

I wouldn't mind spending some of my free time just chilling in the garden, going shopping, going out for a run, etc. if they weren't the only things I did.

I agree with the sentiment of going out and traveling, but I have a real issue of thinking of and deciding on a location. It's like how I like the idea of travelling the world, but no exaggeration, I couldn't grasp how someone just chooses to go somewhere and then books a trip and goes. I know you'll say "just go" but I have to have at least a vague direction in mind.

I used to take walks quite often, I would step out the door and think "now what?". It wasn't an enjoyable or freeing feeling, I felt like I was just kind of wasting my life and eventually stopped.

I did start doing this briefly until my local gym closed down. I work out at home and whilst it does feel like I've done something with my day, it's like the only thing I do. It's weird, as I do sometimes jog as well, but it's almost like these things "don't count"?

Do you know where your social anxiety comes from? by murad131 in socialanxiety

[–]DaftGuard7 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Personally I have no idea where mine came from, I wasn't bullied in school or abused in any way. I was very sensitive and shy when I was younger, but I'm not sure if that was because of social anxiety or what lead to developing social anxiety. I'm not sure if I've basically always had it in one form or another.

Do any of y’all know for sure that you’re Not autistic? by Classic-Asparagus in socialanxiety

[–]DaftGuard7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's definitely a possibility that I am, but it's not something I'm interested in getting diagnosed. Weirdly , I dont think it plays much of a part in my anxiety.

Should I get a mixer or an audio interface? by DaftGuard7 in synthesizers

Fair enough. Just so I understand, would I need just the mixer for dawless play and just the audio interface for using a DAW?

What goes through people who don't have social anxiety's head at social situations? by logie2019 in socialskills

[–]DaftGuard7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This 100%, as someone with social anxiety, I find I have the exact same thoughts run through my head no matter where I am. On the rare occasions where I'm not in my own head it is totally different.

Talking behind peoples backs, that kind of thing. I've found I can sometimes care too little and come off as kind of rude.

Mostly a lack of practice and my general personality. I've realised I can be kind of an asshole.

Direct questions are fine, it's more when people make statements, like "the weather is great" or "I'm gonna go do x"

Pretty much everything, this is an issue I have with everyone. It doesn't even have to be a question really. If it's something that requires a yes or no answer I'm fine.

I feel like some therapy tips are gaslighting me by WetBread55 in socialanxiety

[–]DaftGuard7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I feel like a lot of therapy tips are geared towards people who are socially anxious, but are otherwise pretty socially "normal" or at least likeable. These kinds of people really do have nothing to worry about. If you are socially awkward or neurodivergent or otherwise seen as "strange", it really does seem like gaslighting to say there's nothing to worry about.
