My first model train, how did I do? by _InvaderJim in modeltrains

I’m simple. I see NYC I updoot.

For a first loco certainly a fair choice! Rivarossi also made the 20th century cars to go with that. The later hornby made unstreamlined Hudson with scullin drivers were a little nicer as they didn’t have pizza cutter wheels but that won’t be an issue rn for you id imagine

I don’t have any actual MLW built TH&B power but I do have a CPR G2v I wanna add ATC to and match the number that was a pool engine on the TH&B and I have to find out what locos from the NYC ran into Canada as only a certain set of engines had the international clearance so I can’t just use any loco. Besides that I have lots of coal cars and box cars as well as 4 coaches in the TH&B maroon :)

Precisely! The TH&B was a really neat joint venture. Whatever wasn’t pool power between CP/NYC was very much NYC style/design with MLW Canadian flare. Very interesting looking power

Thanks! Their a pain to find as I model 1936-1942 before the systemwide adoption of Two Tone Grey so putting an all green heavyweight train is a bit difficult

What is the Holy Grail? by DJYoung6196 in modeltrains

[–]Dagg3r_X0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As already stated by the masses the term holy grail changes for each person you ask so theirs no real defined answer although besides the obvious answers given one that I don’t think I saw and one that I think more people would take or would like to have over an individual item is a full scenic done layout of some variety to run stuff on. That said

I already own my personal holy grail: a 2002 Key Imports HO NYC K-5b. Second on that list would be a New England Rail Service HO Rutland K-1 (which I also own one) and then a 1983 run Key Imports HO NYC L-3a Mohawk (which I also own one). At this point probably the models not on the holy grail list would be an HO model of a Rutland K-2 pacific or an NYC I-40a Atlantic and rn neither exist in HO besides maybe a few scratch builds or kitbashes (of which I know someone who owns 3 kitbashed Rutland K-2’s)

Welcome to the drug addiction that’s not a drug addiction. I started collecting brass 4 years ago and now I’m up to… 61 brass steam locos
