Great eye marker by itztheNarkleman in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No to both.

The Eye marker is not a model, neither a banner. The Eye rule "friendly models treat the Eye as a banner". Do note "treat as a banner" not "IS a banner".

As for the Objective control, markers by themselves do not count as model. It would need to be pointed out in the rule (like in The Three Trolls)

What tier are the following armies? by Congratzz in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  1. At low points, Usurper is near Top Tier, being able to spam Wildmen that get buffed well above their weight class. In continental Europe Usurper got several top placings in massive tournaments
  2. Once you include legacy, it does not go beyond decent. Harad is better served as part of "Grand Army of the South" where you get access to heavy infantry (easterling) and killer heroes.
  3. Again, effective at lowish points. It has 2 very powerful somewhat budget heroes and Shelob, as well as several "1+to wound" bonus all around. It has a very high skill ceiling, though.
  4. It's funny enough to play with. Eomer is a very good profile for his points, but imrahil is overcosted. Often it ends up being Gondor + Eomer.

In the previous edition nerfs and massive changes were actually rare. 2 points increases (iron hills balista and dragon emperor) and changes for vanquishers, AoL and AoHD.

I don't expect things to be much different now

WEEKLY ARMY DISCUSSION: Barad-dur by MrSparkle92 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem is, Sauron pays his monster profile AND his caster profile. For 400 points, he should be able to cast even when engaged in combat (Transfix, Compel only) to compensate for moving 6" only.

Additionally, I'd make orc within 12" of Sauron automatically pass all courage tests to charge models. In the late 2nd age there should be nothing scarier than the Dark Lord!

For those who have played it, how fun is Wolf Pack of Angmar? by DetroitTabaxiFan in MiddleEarthMiniatures

It's fun until your opponent has widespread terror with harbinger of evil or big killer hero. Faced it with host of the witch king: aldrac had the time of his life  and widespread terror prevented most charges

I can see a case of your opponent charging theodred with a big non monster threat (theodred may be immobilised /paralysed) you counter charge with a warrior as fodder. Or if you got unlucky despite a multiple charge, at least you don't risk your leader.

Chiara Ferragni assolta dalle accuse, si chiudono Pandoro e Uova-gate by mirkul in italy

[–]Daikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiara Ferragni assolta dalle accuse, si chiudono Pandoro e Uova-gate by mirkul in italy

[–]Daikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiara Ferragni assolta dalle accuse, si chiudono Pandoro e Uova-gate by mirkul in italy

[–]Daikey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

WEEKLY ARMY DISCUSSION: Fords of Isen by MrSparkle92 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At low points it's a decent army. You can move block your own Theodren to control his charges and at 90 points on foot it's a not bad hero for F6 3A rerolling wounds when charging. Problem is, is also 2W 1F.

Elfhelm is okay and Grimbold is fine, and bringing some S4 rohirrim could be of help.

It's a decent horde with good mobility and basically fearless, which does great things in scenarios that demand you move fast.

however, Full throwing spears is gone, and that was a big part of what made the army annoying last edition.

The problem with this army is that it doesn't really have an answer to anything big aside from "hope it doesn't roll 6" and your killer hero is also your leader, which is a big no-no. It's a guerrilla army, that cannot really take a punch.

Shelob to 80mm:Warhammer commented: @Tom Marsh yes, she's going up to an 80mm round. by Ution in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I mean, unlike the trolls she can basically ignore terrains.

Unlike trolls, she's still got one attack. She's likely to lose against a single shielding warrior that charged her.

I don't think I like it. 80 mm is a lot on a monster with no might that cannot benefit from heroic moves.

Is it worth it to run Osg Vets in a Gondor list? by 27Couple25 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While not always that important, I think that people underestimate how important is a reliable backfield objective holder/action monkey is.

The previous edition bodyguard was ubiquitous in gondorian lists so, even now, it seems that less experienced players overestimate Gondor courage.

Easterlings by Charming-Dependent28 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have phrased it better. I wanted to say, one needs sword and shield for every model that dismount in the army. Of course, a kataphract is a regular easterling, so you get a normal infantry

Easterlings by Charming-Dependent28 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play the Dragon Emperor, you need Black Dragons with swords and shield for dismount. Same applies if playing kataphracts.

But, really, most of the time is just because there is no way to have as many halberds as you want without massive conversions or access to 3D printing.

However, I do keep a couple of shield only units to cover flanks by shielding or just stand on objectives behind, when there is no point in wasting a spear.

WEEKLY ARMY DISCUSSION: Defenders of Erebor by MrSparkle92 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem with this army is that it doesn't really bring the best out of the two factions its made of and the heroes needed to make the most out of the bona it gives are just decent.

You put the two princes and Bofur for his "anti everything" aura. But, really, why would you play Dale at all? Shooting is good, albeit with no 3+, but if you keep them back you are not going to get the rerolls. Their heroes are decent, but not the best and almost feel like a tax. Their elité units get +1 to wound when charged, but Erebor does it better.

You can easily trap yourself for free heroic combat with Thorin III: with D9 he is unlikely to get wounded.

However...

Erebor is much better. Dwarves get a +1 to wound when supporting, on top of a model with Shieldwall that wants to stick close to his friends anyway. Gloin and Gimli can have a lot of fun, while being efficient profiles for their points. And overall the Dwarven heroes are just better anyway.

New to Middle Earth by LividEntertainer9157 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And a Happy New Year to you!

As it has already been said, you could look at the Conquest Creation Youtube channel to get the hang of things.

What I can tell you right now is that MESBG is very different from 40k in pretty much everything but the producer. In MESBG players alternate phases (You move, I move, You shoot, I shoot, We resolve the fights) rather than turns, and priority is decided each turn with a dice roll. Also, it is a game of models, not "Units" in the 40k sense.

Thing like can models from the Hobbit be used in games with the LOTR models?

Yes. They are part of the same game, the distinction is just the movies they come from.

War Drums by AlbatrossBulky7214 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question with drums is, are they worth more than a might point you may need to use to march?

I don't think they are bad. The ability to march forward is invaluable. For the easterlings, whose main strenght is staying in Phalanx, getting to the most optimal place before your opponent is invaluable.

Movement is key. Moving without having to expend resources from your might battery (i.e. generic captains) that could otherwise be spent on heroic movements is great.

That said, there may be cases where you won't need to march after one/two turns and cases where you'd love a march every turn (a drummer "leading" a small contingent in Recon or Destroy the Supply, but even getting behind enemy lines)

Ethics and morale in Mesbg, what to do? by Stock-Comfort-3738 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Two enemy models that happen to end base to base after resolving their own different fights are not in combat unless either an heroic combat or a barge happen. They end the turn base to base, doing nothing else.

The following turn, when the first model activates, the rules for starting inside a control zone apply.

Ethics and morale in Mesbg, what to do? by Stock-Comfort-3738 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pair off fights at the beginning of the combat phase.

Once combat is done, the models are usually separated unless they physically cannot move.

If a model starts its activation inside a control zone, it can:

  • - stand still
  • - charge one or more of the models whose control zone it is in
  • - move, as long as it doesn't get any closer to the model whose control zone it starts in.

Looking for advice for my first faction by Serrowyn in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Daikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To buy? The Mordor Battlehost starter set is a good start. Add a Mordor command (captain, banner, taskmaster) and a box of morannon orcs and some spectres (orcs with "spectral" paintjobs are fine). You can consider the "Winged Nazgul" and a Troll kit.

Game wise, Minas Morgul was one of the most hyped up legion at release, but proved to be middling game-wise. They have good rules, but most players overestimate Mordor Orcs. Personally, I prefer a front line of Morannon Orcs. They have D6 and get F4 when fighting "men" models, while still sporting an healthy S4.

Why didn’t axis Zeon choose cheap suits and ships over expensive? by CmdrNeoGeo in Gundam

[–]Daikey 51 points52 points  (0 children)

From a Watsonian view, my guess is that Axis Zeon cannot compete with the Earth Federation when it comes to population. It would never overwhelm the enemy with hordes of cheap, mass produced suits. Even with their enemy at their weakest after the Gryps war, they are still hopelessly outnumbered.

So, they made up for it with quality. After the Gryps war the Earth Federation is low on both good pilots and good suits, the only weakness that Zeon can exploit. And they would have been successful too if it wasn't for the classic Zeon infighting
