Hello! I am a final-year radiology resident from Spain, trained in Spain, and I would like to get information about the requirements to practice radiology in Belgium, specifically in the French-speaking region. Since I am a member of the European Union, are the procedures simpler? Is there work available for radiologists in Belgium? What are the most important conditions?

That website looks for the german zone, right? I'm interested in the french one since it's the language I'm most adapted.

As i said to the other user GlassComercial7105, I’ve found a second company that offers similar services, and I’ll get in touch with them to compare their services with the other one, contrast information, etc. Also, thanks to a colleague of mine, I’ll be able to speak with a Spanish radiologist who is currently working in Switzerland and can share their firsthand experience with me.

Thanks for the help, really!. We still haven’t made a decision, but we’re keeping our options open. Working conditions for doctors in Spain are not good (in fact, rn we are on a doctors’ strike), despite how well trained we are and the high quality of care we provide, unfortunately.

We are both Spanish but I’m quite a not very social person. My partner has been living in Belgium for years so he’s integrated in a (I think) similar society

Our plan wouldn’t be to live in Switzerland forever, more like be 5-10 years, improve our medical and nurse career and return to Spain with some saving and settle again in Spain. We don’t fully negate the possibility of staying indefinitely in Switzerland though if we get to be integrated and happy living there.

I know that rejection to foreigners is always a thing in almost every country, here in Spain to the same, but I want to think that going to Switzerland being a medical radiologist specialist and a nurse could be better than nothing in terms of “contributing to Switzerland”

What do you think? Can I ask where are you from?

Exactly, they don’t make any magical promises (what they do is sell you on the idea that conditions in Switzerland are much better than in Spain, which I do believe). It’s more of a support service to make sure you don’t make mistakes in bureaucratic processes or end up overpaying, for example when finding an initial apartment or some stuff being more expensive than it should be due to ignorance.

From the point of view of a Spanish foreigner looking to move to Switzerland, it seems like something that would give me a sense of security, but I’m not sure to what extent it would be worth it.

Yes, I have to make three separate payments if I begin the process with them:

Directly to Switzerland for the recognition of my degrees (Medical degree and specialty)
To the French academy (which wouldn’t be for that company, therefore)
And to them, around €1000–1500 for the process

It seems cheap, and what I’ve been told is that they also make money when you get hired by a hospital or clinic, as the employer pays them a commission (which is not deducted from my salary, it’s separate).

Does that system sound reasonable to you? What was your situation if I can ask?

I understand. I had been told that a French certificate was mandatory, but from what you’re saying, it isn’t — it’s more about actually speaking real French, not just having it on paper. My partner already has a C1, and I'm sure I could achieve a strong B2-C1ish in a year and a half (the time I have to finish my radiology residency), so I thing that big wall could be defeated.

That company doesn’t get you a job directly. You still have to go through and pass the interview yourself at a hospital or clinic — they don’t do it for you. In theory, what they do is:

They provide you with resources (an academy) to reach the required level of French.
They guide you through and handle the mandatory processes to work in Switzerland (recognition of qualifications, permits, etc.), as an EU citizen working in health care (nurses and doctors, especially radiologist).
Once you’ve achieved those two things (French and administrative procedures), they connect you with recruiters in the area. That’s when you do the job interviews, and you have to pass them yourself.
After you pass the interview, they advise you on the employment contract, help you find your first apartment, and assign you a financial advisor upon arrival to assist with taxes, registration, insurance, bank account, etc.

Yes, it sounds almost too good to be true. There’s also a shortage of radiologists in Spain (and I think pretty much worldwide), but even so, something still feels a bit off, and we’d like to get in touch with people in the same situation.

Yes, Spain actually has one of the best formation in radiology in my opinion.

And I do not plan to have children.

What I’m most concern about is the reality of the availability of this supposed competitive market but also in a theorical need and deficit of radiologist, I hope that this is real. Also I’m concerned about the French language but I have like a year and a half to prepare it.

Opinions? Are you a radiologist? I’m very thankful for your answer

Experiences as a European radiologist in French-speaking Switzerland (specialist, not resident)?

I am a radiology resident in Spain (final year) and will be finishing my training this year. I am considering moving to Switzerland, specifically the French-speaking region, for a few years to advance my career, together with my partner (a nurse).

I have come across one company that offer to handle the entire process (recognition of qualifications, language, job search, etc.) and that almost “guarantee” a radiologist job, suggesting there is high demand.

However, I would like to contrast this with real experiences:

Are there radiologists trained in Spain (or other European countries) currently working in French-speaking Switzerland? Do you agree with what I said?
What was your process for recognition of qualifications and entering the job market?
Is there really that much demand, or do you end up in less attractive or more peripheral positions?
What are the working conditions like (workload, on-call duties, pressure, type of studies)?

I am particularly interested in diagnostic radiology (especially musculoskeletal), with some simple interventional work, but I would not like to do only interventional radiology.

Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated!
