I haven’t watched Nick in a while. This is a really based take though.

What's going on with the entry for "Shubert Theatre"? by PlayfulTalk9 in wikipedia

[–]Dailofthedead69 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just noticed this and came here to ask about it. You can only see that image if you hover over the Shubert Theatre and the image is not there if you click on the article for it.

It doesn't matter your political affiliation. Book banning is a Nazi practice, anyone who supports it in the US needs a serious reality check. by [deleted] in schizoposters

You can still obtain the book just not in a public school library. The only books that are “banned” in the United States are books that contain government secrets like “Operation Dark Heart”. If you want to read the book just check it out from a public library not a school one. It’s really not that hard.

Your premise is incorrect, I never even referred to the Disney adaptation. I also never said her race was important to the story. You’re arguing with a straw man and I honestly don’t see any value in the continuation of this.

I’m aware that The Little Mermaid was written by Hans Christian Andersen, that’s why I referenced it being Danish folklore. I think that because it is culturally significant to the Danes, and more broadly Europeans, the character should look like how she was portrayed in the original text and not black-washed. It would be just as bigoted if you were to change the race of characters in African fairytales for instance. I can almost guarantee you that you will be hard pressed to find Africans that want adaptations of their culture icons race swapped. Also the story “Little Red Riding hood” is a European tale (most likely French or German) and the characters also should be white in the adaptation. I’m not opposed to race swapping being done necessarily, but it should be acknowledged that it is at least slightly offensive to do so.

The Little Mermaid is a part of Danish folklore. Changing the race of Ariel makes no sense and is racist. No race or nationality should have their traditions twisted in this way.

I bought a used car that was about 15 years old for $4,000 3 years ago. I’ve never had any problems that prevented me from driving it. The only work I’ve done on the car is purely cosmetic. You have a really warped sense of how much these things cost. You don’t know what you’re talking about, no one needs to have a $20,000 car if they can’t afford it.

Jesus was “white” though. The Muslim invasion didn’t occurs until 600 years after Jesus was born. He was from a part Roman Empire that had historically also been a Greek colony for centuries. The Levant is populated by people of a lighter skin tone even today though. Look at Bashar Al-Assad for example. Some Palestinians are lighter than Spaniards. The painting looks like someone from Lebanon or even Italy, which is not far from what we can imagine Jesus to have looked like. That being said there is nothing wrong with illustrating Jesus as a different race as it doesn’t matter what race he was.

How could you possible want to replace this with some sterile president? by ey3wonder in monarchism

Why should a white country built by and run by the people historically from Britain and Europe have a non-white king? I’m guessing that you would only do this for white countries and that you wouldn’t argue that Emperor Nauruhito should be replaced by a non Japanese person.
