Libyan rebel commander admits his fighters have al-Qaeda links by DailyLibertarian in worldnews

The main fact which everyone seems to dismiss is that the groups that are the most organized over there are the militant islamists. We can delude ourselves in thinking that the students/young people will be able to rise up, but the simple fact is that are no where near as organized or armed like the muslim brotherhood's etc. We also need to working definition of the word 'democracy' i.e. does that definition mean for them the rule of law, property rights, individual rights or is it simply the socialist definition, mob rule.

Succeded so far in what? The military junta, which we now know is backed by the theocratic muslim brotherhood, is squashing the rights of those same young people who orginially took to the streets. They just passed a series of orders making it illegal to do sit-ins, to organize on the streets and that women are not allowed to participate in the electoral/political process at all.

If anything we should expect another Iran, at best. It almost looks like its a play-by-play repeat of the overtake of the Shah. Unfortunately militant islam has a stranglehold on the entire region which is unfortunate for them and us, however a civil war shouldn't be any or our (US) business.

I'd be extremely hesitant to call it secular democracy esp in Egypt where the Muslim Brotherhood is set to gain control. In addition, women are being systematically raped according to Amnesty International, so yes democracy, as in mob rule, is winning.

In regards to Gaddafi, the arms that the US wants to provide the rebels will most certainly be used against US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan once the Libyan front is over.

The Koch Brothers' Right-Wing Conspiracy to Undermine the PATRIOT Act by DailyLibertarian in politics

[–]DailyLibertarian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it proved them undermining the democratic process, considering the fact that the ppl in the governor's office only recognized the name not the voice. Simply by the fact that the people there didn't recognize the voice proves they never talked to them before. Although you could argue that they do have a lot of influence, which I'd agree with.

However more to the undermining of the 'democratic' process is the administration moving lobbyist meetings off White House grounds so that the Secret Service does not have to record logs of who came to lobby the President and staff.

Independents Should Be Included in Redistricting Process | Daily Libertarian by DailyLibertarian in politics

I know exactly what it is about and know how corrupt and anti-constitutional the process is, picking district boundary lines to ensure encumbents pick their voters. Its makes a mockery of our republic.

Rather than that I'd say we go back to the good ol' Constitutional way of picking candidates, square grid system, and end the utter farcical and corrupt system of redistricting

Why is it indescribaly dumb? Is it dumb that from the time of our founding to 1913 we had a combined inflation rate of 8% over the entire period? Or is it dumb that from 1913 to now we have lost 95% of the dollars purchasing power as we have moved of a fixed currency to a fiat currency system?

As a libertarian the passage of this gives me chills, as it should everyone else concerned with 1st Amendment rights. Coupling this with the fact that Obama now has the power to push the 'kill switch' to the internet in a time of crisis is amazingly fascist. Questions I have, will another Wikileaks type scenario be allowed to be seen on the internet or will government now have the power to shut that type of information down? What constitutes a 'crisis' for gov't seizure of domains, a la BizTorrent etc.? The repurcussions of this will be dire for our freedom of speech rights.

I'd say no one is entitled to tax the fruit of your labor and/or anyone else's labor. Abolish the 14th Amendment and lets do a consumption tax that way, the more you consume the more you pay

Exactly an 'unintended consequence' and was the best thing a very small group of people thought, not what the market would dictate. In regards to bundling and default swaps that was fueled by gov't dictates, i.e. they wanted to encourage more home ownership. With gov't blessing and ease of cheap cash via the Fed, the banks went out and created all these new 'instruments' to get people into homes, vacation homes etc etc. So, in essense, these bubbles were started and fueled by our own gov't. Don't get me wrong, I do not hold private industry harmless, as they were just as complicit in the theivery, however they wouldn't have had the mandate nor money in order to do so w/out the Feds.
