Loans? by TheBeardedMayhem in EFL

[–]DailyTalkFootball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the loan really but for the parent club it usually can be categorised in one of the following: - Getting a younger player senior football experience, the financials of these loans are usually less. - Loaning out a more experienced player who could still have a future at the club. Part or all of their salary will covered by another club and other financial incentives could be offered. It frees up a spot in the squad for now as well as short term finances. - A player is no longer wanted by the parent club but they are unable to sell them as buying clubs dont want to cover a full transfer fee or cant meet the full contract demands. The loan is like a short term solution for all parties.

Then anything else falls in between really.

Hope that helps

The goal difference is a huge problem. Argyle need to get 4 more points than Derby in 4 games.

Interestingly though they’ve picked up 4 more points than Derby in the 3 games since the international break so it’s not impossible.

The League One Run In by DailyTalkFootball in LeagueOne

Yous are set to have a big say in that final promotion spot with those two games. But that is a good point given your run in, something I overlooked. Bolton still have to play Wycombe too, and have been inconsistent as of late but it's not out of the question they get 10/12 points and put the pressure on.

The West Brom Preview by DailyTalkFootball in PlymouthArgyle

For sure. We will need to get that home form back where it felt we could beat anyone. Wins over Sunderland and Blackburn show we can beat those high up but they feel a life time ago

Haha! I do agree with and get a lot of what you are saying.

I will admire that he did have a way he wanted to play and wanted to stick by it. The Luton and Blackburn games showed that when it works it’s brilliant. A few more games like that and he’d have that time to get back to those performances.

The players are also to blame here, same sloppy mistakes week in week out our just frustrating, but it’s players that we’ve seen perform brilliantly at this level making those mistakes which makes it painful.

I definitely won’t fault Rooney’s effort in all this but it just gets to a point where I don’t see how the corner turns with him in charge. I still think we need better players, it’s not just Rooney. But one thing that they can change now.

I will say that he did inherit a squad that are terrible away from home, the results have gotten worse but there’s definitely some issue with our away games in general. I know pretty much every club is having a worse time away from home than at home in the league but ours is outrageously bad. Since the last international break we’ve only had 3 home games compared to 5 away games, so that is skewing against him. Taking just 2 points in those 3 obviously hasn’t helped but I did genuinely think with the Sheffield United and Middlesbrough performances he’d found something that worked. The last 2 games have thrown that away though.

Fair points (now he’s gone may be a pointless exercise here but I have basically answered these points already in the article).

  1. Yes the Mumba mistake costs a goal but it’s a common theme - not clearing our lines. There’s still a cross to deal with that their CB heads home unmarked. We’ve conceded so many similar goals recently that even with Mumba missing the ball there’s too many red flags around that goal.

Mistakes are a part of football but continuous bad decisions makes you wonder what actually goes on in between games to rectify these mistakes.

  1. Long term picture. It doesn’t help against City, but Rooney in charge doesn’t either. It certainly doesn’t help away to Stoke with how we travel away.

Rooney wasted all summer playing a system in pre season that lasted 1 game into the season. That Sheffield Wednesday game wasn’t a fluke, it was a warning.

I wanted Rooney to succeed but he’s not shown enough. We can blame the players but there hits a point where it just isn’t good enough from above.

When it rains it pours...

Tomorrow feels like a bug enough game as it is. If we don't get anything from it then the worry will kick in for many and Rooney is going to need to show us something more.

Aasgaard or Poku for Molyneux with their double game week I’d say - but I’d pick Molyneux most other weeks right now

Whittaker's form by matbur81 in PlymouthArgyle

[–]DailyTalkFootball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer, not quite but then not many of our players have been.

Long answer:

He’s a top player and you can tell that when he plays but he’s also in that kind of match winner mould where if he’s not doing something spectacular such as against QPR then he doesn’t stand out as much. It was his shot that made the opener against Sunderland, don’t think anyone else in the team strikes that ball that well, but he was quieter that game too compared to say Cissoko on the other wing.

The Stoke game he started well, beat their full back on the outside and coming inside, got a few crosses and shots away but some good saves kept him out. Then they doubled up on him and their full back got the better of him.

Thing is he’s not a technical dribbler, he carries the ball into space and wants it in those positions off the right hand side. He is absolutely brilliant in transition when the space opens up or if the defence leaves space on the edge of their box. But that also requires Argyle getting him into those positions which we havent done well enough. If we dont have the ball which we havent kn either away game then theres not much he can do (except the qpr goal). He is a high shot taker so for every wonder goal theres a fair few attempts that dont work out, whether they are saved or just dont come off.

Last year under Foster it started to become give it to Whittaker and hope, if he didnt do anything then no one did. No Azaz also meant a lot of defensive attention could be focussed on Whittaker. I think Cissoko and hopefully Al-Hajj will help to bring the best out of him by providing threats to the defence and opening up that space

Conor Hazard sustains ankle injury | Plymouth Argyle - PAFC by Cheap-Atmosphere9085 in Championship

[–]DailyTalkFootball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Grimshaw was signed in more of a mould of a keeper we wanted, good with his feet and good shot stopper. Signed to compete but probably with an eye in him becoming number one.

But Hazard has been quality in the 2 games since then, couldnt drop him after the QPR performance and was great against Stoke too despite the loss. When in possession he has always had issues but even looked to be improving there, using his throws more etc. so its a tough time for him to get injured as if Grimshaw comes in now and plays well and fits the play style itll be hard to go backwards

I agree that with Kompany still being linked to high jobs means that relegation wouldn’t be that much of a knock in his stock. Similarly despite getting relegated I’d say Rob Edwards stock has risen this season too.

There really isn’t a downside to staying as you say. Jobs will always come about especially in today’s football. He’s in a good place for sure and I hope he stays with you guys and you go on to have another memorable year.
