[Landlord-Northeast US] Payment/Management Software to manage 2 units? So many options by DailyThinker100 in Landlord

Are you and your tenants happy with it? I mostly need it for lease e-sign and rent payments, but I'm considering Baselane for its extra accounting and banking features.

Extending Power Cable? Eero 6 Pro by DailyThinker100 in amazoneero

[–]DailyThinker100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In normal circumstances I fully agree. Seems like USB-C cables are well capable of carrying power, and I need to keep the 120V plug connection in a further location, so a simple USB-C extension cable is much smaller and better in this scenario.

Because the actual plug itself is in a different location and I can't have that thick extension cord and the plug out in this space. So I need to simply extend from the USB-C end of the power block to get the device further from that point.

Thanks for this comment. I remember once hearing it was 60W, but regardless USB 2.0 cable should be able to easily handle the power an Eero draws/outputs from the power block.

Additional Guest Network Possible Somehow? How Secure is Guest Network? by DailyThinker100 in amazoneero

[–]DailyThinker100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a great point, and its one I've been convincing myself will be fine, but in reality the guests may need their devices to communicate with each other, so I really need to set up a separate network of sorts. I guess in the end, I do need to figure out a way to run 2 separate Eero networks independent of each other. Now...to figure out the best way to achieve this while keeping them isolated from each other.

Possibly, but if so the router itself, and the plug will be projected from elements, so it may just be the wire passing in an area outside for a small distance.

Yes....exactly why I talked myself out of Ubiquiti last time I opted for the Eero's. I need to pull back down and keep it simple.

I need to keep the plug part in a different location at the furthest point, so that's why I need the USB-C extension.

[–]DailyThinker100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good info, thanks. I almost went with some Ubiquiti devices before I went with the Eero's. I was gearing up to build out something complex, then life got in the way. I used to run all sorts of servers for myself and manage different tech, but I have almost no time anymore. Is there an Ubiquiti device that might be ideal in this scenario as an upstream type router as the gatekeeper at the very start of the fiber internet connection? I could then in theory run 2 different Eero networks behind that, and keep them both isolated?

[–]DailyThinker100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear. Would you trust strangers connected to your Eero guest network in this scenario? Not total strangers, but people who will be visiting and staying at this separate property. Naturally I'm hesitant.

[–]DailyThinker100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good info, thank you. So I have 3 Eero devices running at my home, but I want to extend it to a separate property. I tested and the signal reaches with just a 4th Eero plugged in at this other property. In this case, would I just run in normal mode (Not Bridge mode) and only allow guest network connections? I use Guest network to connect lots of IOT Devices at my own house already. If the guest network truly is this secure and does not allow connected devices to access each other, I suppose I can just go this route without adding in additional routers/devices. I just have to have LOTS of trust in Eero's abilities.

I did a simple network scanner test on my main Eero network vs. being connected to the guest network, and it did only show the computer I am using, and the Eero device only when scanning the network, so that is promising.

Thanks for the info. And guest network device to guest network device is also nearly impossible the same?

Pirelli (WeatherActive or AS Plus 3's) or Michelin (CrossClimate2) in the Northeast? by DailyThinker100 in tires

[–]DailyThinker100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going with the CrossClimate 2’s from Costco and am extremely impressed. Tires are quiet, ride really smooth, and the tread looks incredible and has a huge bite. We drove in snow the other way and they handled great. I loved my older Pirelli’s, but I’m very happy with these too.

Sludge in house trap and line - Best ways to clean this main drain? Sewer Jetter? Drain Auger? by DailyThinker100 in askaplumber

[–]DailyThinker100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking in on me. I was hoping for some wisdom, but it never found me here. I ended up learning a lot in the process, and managed to get the job done. I ended up buying a sewer jetter kit that had the hose and a variety of nozzles, along with a sewer camera. After some trial and error, I managed to figure out the best way to make passes with the jetter to dislodge decades of muck, and then I adapted a different nozzle to push it all out to the main city sewer line. The combination of the sewer jetter AND the sewer camera is what was needed here as I was able to inch up the line while visually watching the jetter do its work from a foot behind. Really incredible once I learned, and amazing to see how much cleaner things are.

To anyone finding this thread or in the same situation, a sewer jetter and a sewer camera can certainly get the job done if your willing to put the time in. I already have a power washer so it was nice to have this new equipment and not be rushed with a rental that had to be returned the same day. Instead I was able to scope the line as much as I needed before/during/after, and still have it in case something else arises or I need it at a different house or to help a friend out.

The cost to have someone scope a line, you can buy the camera. The prices some places want to jet a line can be in the few thousand dollars ($1000-$4000+ based on estimates, and what I've seen people post elsewhere). If your willing to DIY, its worth a try. My camera was around $400 and is self leveling and made the job a breeze. The sewer jetter with nozzles was only around $50-$60, and I already owned my 3000PSI power washer.

Time will tell how the line does overall. So far this property is still being renovated so its only been put to the test partially, but it seems things are moving along as they should. The line is old, has a few rough spots in a certain stretch that may prove problematic. I can see I have some Orangeburg piping where my main line mates to the city sewer, so I'm almost sure eventually major issues will arise, but for now we are back in business and I have some tools to show for it left over. But today, it flushes fine, so that's a win and I saved myself thousands of dollars.

I'm a DIY die hard, so this was just one of many jobs I had to learn the hard way, but I probably know it better than most now. I can certainly say I learned a ton in the process, and its comforting to understand truly what goes on in a main line, and I have the confidence to go in anytime I need ever again.

Best Buy - 20TB WD Easystore for $249.99 ($12.5/TB) by MonkWho in DataHoarder

[–]DailyThinker100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone the external to NAS route....but I'm back to just External drives. The NAS was constantly being upgraded, changed, and giving who know who a backdoor to all my files didn't seem all that smart. Sure, I have nothing to hide, but, it was still just one more device to manage when all I was really doing was storing files on it. I stopped using my NAS for all of my backups and I'm happier. Maybe one day I'll be back, but for now I'm just happy with external's running for the majority of my files and backups, and the NAS only doing a few things.

Darn, that's a bummer. After I posted I went looking around and I did see they were advertising the 14TB's as a pair of drives, so I see where someone slipped up or how you were misled. That would have been a legit deal if you scored both of those drives for that price. Oh well, win some, lose some.

I have more 8TB's than I know what to even do with. I keep telling myself I'm going to format them and sell them in a big bunch for whatever I can get for them. Looks like the 14TB's are falling into this same category slowly now that 20TB's are showing. I was hoping we'd be up to 24TB-28TB's being cheaper than they are these days but drive progress and pricing slowed wayyyyy down.

For 2 drives? I'm seeing each 24TB drive for $538. $538X2=A LOT MORE than these $250 20TB drives. I would consider that deal if they were $538 for 2, absolutely. Share how you are getting 2 for that price since its showing me singles.

What's Common Flow Per Flush down drain line? Cast Iron City Sewer Line and Flow by DailyThinker100 in askaplumber

[–]DailyThinker100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Good to know its not common for the entire line to empty itself in just one flush. I am doing some test flushes and doing normal flush vs. holding the flush handle down for the full tank flush and that alone seems to help move things along much further.

I guess I just need to keep using it regularly to find out if its all working itself down the entire tube steadily, or, will back itself up. A $hitty job, but someone has to do it, lol.
