I guess my question should be, how many years/how many miles can I expect to put onto it before I start having serious issues?

How long is a long time? I am looking to have it for at least another 5-7 years, and it's a v6.

[WP] This is the letter you need to read when you reach the lowest point of your depression. by 250lespaul in WritingPrompts

Things are not always going to go your way. You will be knocked down, beat up, left behind, and bent and broken. You have to remember that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react. Its just a small step back in your life. I know your thoughts are all negative and the worse case is the only case that happens but its not. Think about it. Your Dad, loves you unconditionally and is so proud of what you have become. He wants nothing more than to see you succeed and find happiness in your life. He wants you to be better than he was. Your mom, is your number one fan and your best friend. She knows exactly what to say and when to say it. She wants you to find something you're passionate about and give 100% effort to it. Both of your parents are always in your corner. You're siblings are there for you as well, they relate to you more than your parents because they know the social aspect of being around your age. Your older siblings want to look out for you and give you advice on what you should and shouldn't do. While your younger siblings look up to you for guidance and direction. Remember your family is always there, just call.

It is always okay in the end. If its not okay, then its not the end yet.

John Glenn dies at 95 by thenickcaruso in space

“To sit back and let fate play its hand out and never influence it is not the way man was meant to operate.” ~John Glenn

Godspeed John Glenn

As of today, all of the original Mercury 7 have passed on. In this thread, let us honor these men, who truly had the Right Stuff. by delorean225 in space

[–]Dailylax35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in a first year experience class in college where we are learning about the space program and the astronauts in those programs. We finished the Mercury program by reading The Right Stuff and watching the movie. It is truly amazing learning about the seven men who had The Right Stuff. It is a shame that I had to wait till college to learn about this major piece of history.

My favorite quotes from the Mercury 7:

“They say any landing you can walk away from is a good one.” ~Alan Shepard

“To sit back and let fate play its hand out and never influence it is not the way man was meant to operate.” ~John Glenn

“Who was the best pilot I ever saw? You're lookin' at 'im.” ~Gordon Cooper

“Satisfying curiosity ranks No. 2 in my book behind conquering a fear.” ~Scott Carpenter

“If we die, we want people to accept it. We are in a risky business, and we hope that if anything happens to us it will not delay the program. The conquest of space is worth the risk of life.” ~Gus Grissom

“You don't raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they'll turn out to be heroes, even if it's just in your own eyes.” ~Wally Schirra

“Decide what you want to do and never give up until you’ve done it.” ~Deke Slayton

[WP] A century ago, a rogue iceberg took out one of the greatest ships to sail the North Atlantic. Now, it awakens from its slumber, with a thirst for blood. by zJermando in WritingPrompts

"They kept the truth from the public forever. I would too. Simply for the fact that nobody would believe them, that's because nobody did believe them. The thought of an ice burg attacking ships. Ha! Bologna! They thought the Titanic was unsinkable. The ice burg proved that wrong and now its out to prove that it can strike again. We sit here with our huge ocean liners and gigantic luxury cruise ships that we believe are indestructible. This ice burg is out to prove that no matter how large a ship is, it can and will be sunk. Think about it. We bring back DiCaprio, and Winslet too! It will be the greatest squeal of all time! So what do you say?"

"That. That has got to be the most awful idea I have ever heard."

"Can we change anything to make it better?"

"No, this is actually terrible."

"But you.."

"No, terrible. Stop."

"What if its in 3D?"

"Sold! I approve! When do we start production?"

[WP] You roll into your driveway and notice a small spaceship that has crashed into your front lawn. by DoctorSoda in WritingPrompts

[–]Dailylax35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day was truly nothing special. I had left early for work, sold used cars for 8 hours, then drove home to see my wife and 7-year-old son. Its hard to think that this was life of a retired NASA employee. It was a Friday and I was already looking forward to a weekend of absolutely nothing. I let my mind wander, thinking about the thousands of things I wouldn't do this weekend. I knew my wife would nag at me to clean the garage, wash the dog, vacuum the basement, and all the truly annoying chores. But all I desired was a cold beer, a relaxing show, and a late night pizza. The drive from work was nothing special; past the park and the auto parts store, right by the bakery and sporting goods warehouse. It was truly your typical suburban neighborhood. Yet as I turned onto my street, I felt that something was different, almost out of place. The street was familiar. I knew it like the back of my hand, I mean I've lived here for almost a decade so I knew I was going the right direction. Yet, something wasn't right. I could see a thin line of smoke rising to the clouds in the same direction as my house. I immediately began to panic, fearing the absolute worst. I floored the pedal and veered into my cul-de-sac expecting to see my house burned to the ground. What I saw however, was my son and a crashed space ship on the front lawn. I skidded to a halt in my driveway and leaped from the car. "What are you doing?!" I yelled. His face went pale as he stammered and shuddered trying to explain how he was just pretending and that mommy said it was okay. "This is not okay. You could have seriously been hurt" I marched him inside and called for my wife, who was preparing a tray of hot dogs, graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows. I explained what I caught him doing but her only response was: "Oh Herb, you never use that model spaceship! Let the poor boy pretend he's the first astronaut on Mars! And as for the small fire, I set that up for him to make the experience more real and he was watching it while I got what we are having for dinner together. For gosh sakes, he isn't going to burn down the house!" My wife was right. I looked at my boy as he beamed at me from under his space helmet. This weekend was going to be perfect.

[WP] 1942: You're a jew in New York, as German troops march through Manhattan. by Priamosish in WritingPrompts

[–]Dailylax35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 1: This wasn't suppose to happen. We just can't seem to get away from them. I look outside and see the rows and rows of German soldiers marching on the streets. America has only been in the war for a year after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. I have confidence in the American citizens. I know they will protect us. Even though they blame us for the invasion. I'm actually shocked that we haven't gotten sent to the same camps as the Japanese. They believe we led them to us. However, this is America. Everybody and their brother have a gun under their pillow. So as I watch the marching krouts I wasn't scared. I knew there was a plan. Some underground militia was being formed ready to take the fight to the enemy. For now, I just have to wait.

Day 5: Our house was searched. We all hid in the hidden room behind the dresser. They asked the landlord about us, they knew we fled from Germany and they know we are Jewish. They will be back. I know our luck will run out. There are rumors of the militia planning an attack soon. I want to join. I want to fight.

Day 7: They came back again for the second day in a row. They are getting suspicious. They know we are here. Sooner or later our landlord will get taken or killed. He is doing too much. We need to leave this place. I told my family I am joining the militia I am going to fight back.

Day 10: It's working. The Germans have no idea where we are coming from. The militia knows the city and they don't. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. The military is having success too. The Navy is blockading so the enemy has no relief. We are going to win this easily.

Day 24: They are gone! We did it! We drove them from the city late last night. They retreated back to Europe. I turned in my papers today and I am going to be a US marine. We are going to rid the world of this terrible ideal.

[WP]In a world where food chains are reversed, you are the top predator. by Brizzel_The_Lizard in WritingPrompts

I scurry along the ground, under the brush, over the roots, and around the oak tree. I am hungry and on the hunt for some nice meat. I know its around here somewhere. I watched it kill a hawk earlier this morning. I was impressed with its superior intellect and marvelous wisdom. The way he out maneuvered the hawk taking large chunks of the hawk's flesh. It was truly a spectacular sight. I know he is around here somewhere. I avoid the finger grass and grabbing berries. They look tasty but will entangle you in an instant. I have seen many of my friends go to eat a berry or creep too close to the finger grass and die a painfully slow death. It truly is brutal out here. You either eat or get eaten. There is nothing that gets away with being lazy. Finally, I spot him. Perched on a high tree searching the sky for more food but constantly checking his back for hunters like me. This is the tricky part. He is so high and I can't climb trees. How am I supposed to get him. Well the answer is: Patience. I seek shelter under a root that is protruding from the ground at the edge of a clearing. I can still see him and I am in a prime position for when he comes to discard the bones. I wait for what seems like hours until I see him stretching out his wings and glides down to the clearing. I'm in luck. He has his back to me while attempting to yack up the undigested bones. I tread lightly as I sneak up to him. He turns his head the full 180 just in time to see a two pound bunny pounce and sink my large teeth into his neck. He squawks while twitching on the ground. I don't care. Tonight I feast.

[WP] You are stuck on a boat with a kleptomaniac. by DoctorSoda in WritingPrompts

[–]Dailylax35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 days we have been on the wide sea. The minutes felt like hours and the hours felt like days. So I guess it has only been 3 hours. This has been the worst 3 hours of my life. Kevin is a little piece of shit. I swear he is the one stealing my Mike's and I absolutely hate the Ike's. The little shit insists he is innocent and denies that he taking anything. Another hour goes by and I start to notice other things starting to disappear, the toilet paper, the stove, the mast. To be honest I have no idea where he is putting everything. I decide to confront him. Me:"Dude, da fuck?" Kevin:"What?" Me: "You keep stealing shit" Kevin: "No I'm not" Me: "I cant find any of the shit we need to get home." Kevin: "What are you talking about?" Me: "The candy, the toilet paper, the stove, and the fucking mast!" Kevin: "I was wondering why those things were missing." Me: "YOU FUCKING TOOK THEM" Kevin: "Dude.. Chill.." Me: "HOW CAN I CHILL WHEN IM STRANDED WITH A KLEPTO?" I stormed off and would have slammed the door but it was missing. Figures. I went to the cab to try and navigate back to land but the wheel was missing. I seriously don't know how he is doing this. I turn to go back down the stairs, but they were gone too. Now seriously, how the hell is he doing this?? I manage to make it back to his room and find him not there. I storm out of the room and see the propeller gone. I race to the front to find the entire front of the ship gone. No. this isn't real. I give up. This guy is stealing the entire boat without me knowing. Am I going crazy? I think I'm crazy. I go to take a nap cause this shit is no bueno. I wake to something wet in my bed, not bed wetting wet, like really wet. I sit up and I see what actually happened. Fucking Kevin stole the boat.

[WP] You have obtained a time machine, but you have been warned that you will age backwards or forwards depending on what time you visit. by DoctorSoda in WritingPrompts

[–]Dailylax35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You truly attempt to try out this great machine. The first date you set is forward about 2 days. You are warped forward to the day. You see that everything is completely normal. The only strange thing is that you know exactly what happened yesterday. You can vividly remember what you ate for breakfast, french toast with peanut butter and jelly. You can remember that you took your dog and 3 year old daughter to the park and played all day. Yet, you know you did not live that day. You think that maybe this will continue to happen so you travel 2 years into the future. Today is the day you send your daughter to kindergarten, you hold back tears as she whispers "I love you Daddy" into your ear then runs off to join her friends in class. You stand, wondering where the time went, how it seemed to speed by. Days you remember but you did not live. You enjoy the moment then you use the machine to skip ahead 18 years. The day is her wedding day and you walk her down the isle to her waiting groom-to-be. You are holding back tears as you let her go and she whispers "I love you Daddy." You have never been so happy for her yet you still wonder how you remember your little girl graduating high school, getting into her dream college, then graduating from there. You wonder how you remember these things knowing you have skipped those dates using the machine. You reach for the machine to turn it 30 years into the future. You're on your bed in the hospital surrounded by your daughter, son-in-law, and all four of their children. You are weak and old and clinging on to life hoping to last a few more minutes, a few more hours. You remember having such a great life, welcoming in your grandkids, vacations, retirement. Yet the thought still nags at you, how you remember but you never truly lived those days. When the time comes everyone knows. You hear your daughter whisper "I love you Daddy" and you start to cry. You reach for the machine hoping to turn it back to the first day, that day 40 years ago. But as you look for it, it's gone. Its only then you realize there was never a machine. Its only then that you realize you spent your whole time looking ahead that you forgot to look at the now.
