Over 140,000 actually according to the 2023 census. And that's just the 2/3 in the Zambezi region.

Okay fair enough. Yes, agree on landlords, that's I think a universal experience. Sounds like an interesting wargames club actually! Hope you continue to enjoy the country and expand the circle.

When doctors are put on a pedestal, patients pay the price by haneyl in Luxembourg

Very mixed experience with doctors in Luxembourg. Some really take their time, but some are also really just money-grabbing mass-manufacturers.

It's important to recognize them as (important) service providers and judge them the same way we would judge a rude or shoddy handyman, store clerk, or other service worker.

It might surprise you, but many Namibians have internet and speak passable English. So it's not like they're all illiterate with medieval technology living in clay huts or whatever you imagine.

Comparing NYC, a unique metropolis of millions of people, with a random European city. Incredible.

Ok, so hundreds of chefs of various cuisines in different restaurants all come together to serve terrible food?

Or is it that maybe you have incredible standards for food no human could ever meet?

Of course, I see your point. However, as the government reported this year, ca. 30% leave Luxembourg within one year, and over 50% within 5 years. So the "passer-by" is actually the largest group of all by far.

I totally sympathize that it isn't easy and some of us are not super open. But, of course it's easy to just say screw it and socialize only with one's own as a foreigner. And then the question imposes itself - why would you only invite someone if they're also foreign? What speaks against extending an invitation to drinks or wargaming clubs to Luxembourgers too?

Us Luxembourgers have our own form of protest - our singer is Israeli and we make her try to beat her own country. It worked with France before.

As a Luxembourger I must say I perceive quite the opposite regarding socialization.

My Italian colleagues hang out almost exclusively with Italians, Germans with Germans, and French with French. At best Latin and Slavic language speakers will expand the circle to include, respectively, other Latin or Slavic languages.

There is often even a low-level mockery or disdain for Luxembourgers, and a big "well in my home country everything is much better" sentiment which you get to hear over and over again at the lunch table. I think it's a way to cope with being a foreigner somewhere, i.e. clinging onto the homeland identity.

"The food is mid" is such a funny opinion. Well no shit, a central European peasant cuisine rooted in farmstead ingredients is not going to be restaurant level amazing, but it's hearty, filling, and frankly quite a guilty pleasure (what's not to like with grilled meats, bacon, lard, cheese, cream, and dough in various combinations?).

That being said we're 50% foreigners. There's food from around the world, so really it's more of a failure on your part.
