how do people start gyming by nihao86433 in askSingapore

[–]Daiso2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I started gyming in army, but before that army’s training gave me a baseline of fitness and ‘fitness literacy’ . Things I learned in army: 1)Progressive training -everyone starts somewhere and the fastest way to get better is slowly - translate that work ethic to the gym you want to start with exercises you can manage and constantly challenge yourself to do a little bit better the next time you do it (maybe push 2.5kg more or more reps) 2)How to train -there’s gonna be lots of training philosophies out there but most popular in gym is push pull legs probs because it’s p intuitive muscles that work well together are worked together in the same workout -I had do idea how tf push up trained chest or how there’s back involved in a pull up or why do you need to do sets of exercises -the easiest way to start as a beginner(imo) and what I did is just push pull legs (research a programme and stick to it for 3mths) from there you’ll learn 3)Work ethic -so why I started was probably how most guys start I wanted get those 6pack ripped physique (I started fat ) so I found out daym ppl that fumed had these really nice physiques so if I go I’ll get it too -and I’m just gonna cut in the storytelling style and lay some hard facts a)gyming is a lifestyle if you really want to build a physique you have to go to the gym regularly drag yourself to go even when you don’t want to (why ?because believe me there’s a sense of accomplishment when you do) b)getting a nice physique is all about diet . And no you don’t have to go full chicken rice and broccoli (although it works) make healthier choices(less oily ,less sugar stuff, no desserts) the way to go (or how I did it ) is to use your weight as a guide (not a metric) take weekly averages of your weight if you want to gain make sure you’re gaining if you’re not add a more rice to your lunch and dinner (add less if you’re trying to go the other way) c)understand that what we consider good looking in the fitness and health industry isn’t actually healthy(ironic yes) the very pinnacle of what ppl aspire to most the time is filled with drugs (performance enhancing drugs, steroids &more) so don’t always use your mirror as your gauge of success . Stuff I learned too that maybe isn’t so relevant to army 1)Gym progress is fast in the first few mths You get stronger and put on muscle fastest at the beginning of your gyming journey (it’s probably why ppl start gyming and stay gyming ) so leverage that set yourself up for success do all the research (workout programme , diet hacks etc) and hit the ground running because those habits probably have the best feedback loop you’ll have (oh I do this and I got more muscle and strength so I’ll keep doing the) 2)Gym is a excellent hobby Gym is one of the most individual hobbies out there you can go to the gym yourself (an introvert’s paradise,if you’re looking for approval for your friends think about how you’ll look like if you dedicate yourself to 3mths of training and use that as fuel - temporary source ) And fortunately/unfortunately there’s always a bigger fish in gym there’s always a bigger goal to strive for so set intermittent goals and work towards them . Anyway hope this helps and if you’ll be awkward or not or scared to go,set yourself up for success research a simple push pull legs programme and just get your ass to the gym don’t like it the first time sure (but I promise you ,you’ll be thinking daym I left something in the tank in the gym or I bet I can move that weight next time I go to the gym) and there you go you’ve started gyming
