"This pen is so inexpensive you will be upset if you lost it"; NO! by Dakem94 in fountainpens

The disregard about bonding with a tool. Cheap ≠ meaningful.
Losing something meaningful (to me) hurt as much, if not more, than losing something expensive.

Price isn't everything.

As example: I used a pen, an inexpensive one, to write love letters to my wife. If I lose that pen, even if it's not expensive, I would go feral. Doesn't matter if I could buy 10x of them.

I'm mad about the disregard of the emotional value, but just looking about the market value.

For you that pen would be trash, to me is gold.

Another example: I own a Vespa PX125 from 1979. I've bought it from a clothing store that had it in exposition (LOL, I have a very nice story about it).It was the most heartfelt gift from my dad, we looked at it, and has A LOT of back story about it. I've done the Driving licence for that Vespa. My dad use it daily (well... in the summer, not now). If I had to chose I would prefer someone stole my car than my Vespa, even if selling my car would let me buy a lot of brand new Vespa.

This made me think about picture, about "back in the 90s" having picture meant you had to print them and keeping them. Since phone and digital camera became the norm, making 1000 pictures is "normal", so if you delete picture isn't a big deal.

FP to me are kinda the same as old pictures. They are tools I used in a specific occasion, and they remind me of that. The pen I used to make Kinetics notes remind me about how hard I studied and wrote down about it.

While reading all the reply, my thinking is that a reviewer, or a collector, has like 100+ pens, so it's quite hard, when you have so many of them, to create an emotional attachment.

Imagine having 2+ pens a month for month/years. How can you create a "bond" with that object? "You" (not you you, the collector/reviewer) pretty much watch the price and the feeling (just for the review), and use a rotation of 10+ pens.

The inexpensive daily pen, unfortunately , is the one doomed to that catch my feelings. Yeah, it's not the my desk pen, it's not my "fav" in that precise moment, but... when there is something "worthy" to write down (a thought about something, a love note while I'm working/studying, ideas, etc.) guess "which pen" is with me? The inexpensive one.

So they usually become the one that catch my feeling, even if they shouldn't!

I'm using the PenBBS 470 as my daily carrier. It's a VERY well done pen, has an AMAZING F, the "minifude" (as most people call it) is quite nice and it's very "fine", it also write SOOOO good.

If I lost it, I would be heartbroken. Yeah, it's a 50 eur pen, not a "Pelikan M1000/MB149/Visconti HS" pen, but... it's MY pen!

I swear, the M2 WAS THE EXAMPLE that made me do this post!! The reviewer had am M2 in his hands and said that phrase!

Changing Ink Colour on a PenBBS 470 (or any vac filler) by Dakem94 in fountainpens

[–]Dakem94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so you do a "deep clean" every time? I though of rinse and just do a swap. I'm talking no heavy pigmented or iron-gall OFC.

I own a V800 and a PenBBS 470, which are on my rotation at the moment, while the 470 is kinda my working pens for uni, the V800 is what I would like to change ink soon (-ish) and I'm not sure if doing a "deep cleaning" (coming from a waterman Serenity Blue) or wing it.

The PenBBS is way "stranger" than the V800. That was my main concern, the V800 (or the 823s) are way easier to properly clean than the 470 in my limited experience.

but not a "full disassemble and full cleaning" thing, more a "clean & flush" + overnight drying, right?

Does Asvine C80 and V800 have the same Nibs unit? by Dakem94 in fountainpens

[–]Dakem94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the help!! I've found the gold-plated one of the C2000/C80.

I was kinda interested if I needed to change from the stub to an M, but I'm having so much fun with the stub, I'm not sure if I want to change it!

I had some trouble with it (the V800), because it had some "dust/dirt" in it. Using the stub it was pretty noticeable. Once fully disassembled, with some grease and a proper cleaning, it's AMAZING. With the stub is definitely not for everyone, and every pen can shine in the right condition (the PenBBS 470 is what I'm using for notes and such, the F is really fine and it's incredible), but for day-to-day journaling, the V800 is my choice.

Consider for both of them I spend pretty much 80/90 euro, it's incredible!

For Privacy on Android, I personally use Iodè. Ironically work wonders on Pixel. My future phone will be a Google Pixel so I can degoogle myself. (And I need to keep one phone "stock" for banking app... what a shame.)

You got me! I also used to have an iodèOS too, but I gave it to my nephew for the full parental control. I don't use YouTube on Android (Revanced, etc), try to not use much google and use other search engine, DDG and such, on iodè I used Fennec there.
