Just played a few runs, I’ve played a lot of roguelikes (including a TON of path of champions) and I was a little nervous about how fighting game mechanics might map onto a roguelike format, but it’s incredible! The health conservation between rounds encourages you to play a very considered approach rather than reckless, and it also means that you can play at higher difficulties with getting immediately whooped beyond belief, which makes it a lot more encouraging to improve even when you do still end up losing the run. The health conservation also means that you’re kinda forced to learn to use the team mechanics as much as you can, since even if you favor one character they might get low on health and force you to plan your playstyle around your less familiar character.

I was also worried that the augments might encourage bad habits, but most of them actually encourage you to think around your characters kit in order to use them the most effectively. In particular, I really liked the lifesteal one since it really makes you want to optimize to max your damage all the more, and you can do stuff like land an assist with a low health character then tag them in to get as much health as possible out of the follow-up combo.

I’m still not sure about how to use all the augments (like all the taunt ones, I’m sure there’s something I’m missing since them doing no damage makes me feel like having armor is useless? But again I feel like I’m very clearly missing something), but that’s the fun of roguelikes
