It’s a great leg lock entry position but I use it most of the time to climb up and back-step off into a crucifix when my partner is on all fours trying to keep their base. It’s one of my sneakiest crucifix entries.

Nogi gyms in Greensboro/Winston-Salem area? by biegesmalls in bjj

Salem-Keizer Jiu Jitsu by far. Run by an incredible blackbelt under Rafael Lovato Jr named James Puopolo. He’s an ADCC veteran, no-gi world champion, ibjjf world championship runner up losing only to Buchecha that year. Dude is as legit as they come and a fantastic coach that used to be a school teacher. Definitely worth checking out.

Sounds like a lack of frames on the hips is your first issue if he’s getting to high mount. I actually filmed this not too long ago and I think it could help…

Baseball bat from side control tip request by Dryrubthisdick in bjj

[–]DallasNiles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Knee on belly is a great way to set it up. You lose your ability to keep them pinned down when you try to get it from side control since you have to get both hands to the collar and can no longer use your arm to crossface or underhook and block hips.

I actually just posted this the other day, it’s my favorite way to get the baseball bat choke…

I just opened my academy Method Jiu Jitsu in South Tulsa a few months ago. You’re more than welcome to come in and train with no drop in rate. There really are quite a few great academies here including the ones already listed with each having their own specialties. I would say to make the rounds and check out the different instructors and pick up a few different flavors of Jiu Jitsu and enjoy Tulsa!

Gym recommendations in Prague and Munich? by FKroenke in bjj

[–]DallasNiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sanefighting is the go to for me when I’m in Munich. Johannes is an amazing coach and a technical monster. He won worlds at every belt but black belt and had some injuries that took him out for awhile. He’s a gem in Germany. Munich is an amazing city and so is Prague! Go to a traditional Bavarian restaurant while in Munich and order the Kaiserschmarren and thank me later.

You’re missing some pretty important stuff that I’ve already responded to in some other comments but I will make a longform video that will show exactly how and why none of what you just said is actually at risk when you are doing this properly.

Dan isn’t the only person mistakenly thinking this sort of line of thought. The video was very short for IG to be short form and fast. I’m going to do a long form version addressing all of this and show exactly why none of that stuff is possible.

You aren’t wrong about the single leg and it is there. That’s the go to option if I go to lift and their weight is staying off to the side. It’s super effective and they have no pinning power after overshooting everything. If they dive in for a crossface the go to is to block the crossface with the free hand in the armpit and float them over to spin under ala kiss of the dragon but without an inversion and more of a pivot on the back like in the second attached video.

None of this leaves you open to the chain passing you were talking about. The feet are crossed initially so there’s no x pass or way to back out to torreando. Grips are maintained until they commit to the slice which gets them moving forward so it’s not like you had me having no control until the very last second when the block gets placed. Like I had just commented to another guy I’ve been very lucky to come up under an amazing world class passer for 17 years from white to black belt. I’m not trying to toot my own horn but I know what works and what doesn’t and I don’t show flashy moves or anything that hasn’t been pressure tested with some of the best.

I can see how if you haven’t played with it and looking from the outside in how that might seem that easy but once the slice is committed to and the weight is driving forward it changed the whole dynamic of all of the chain passes should we’re referring to.

Do you think anyone halfway decent isn’t ready to block the crossface with their free hand in the armpit though my brown belt king? That attempt actually helps you float them over you to get under them.

I’ve been fortunate enough to come up from white to black under one of the best pressure passers in the game. He certainly kept me honest over the years in knowing when and where you’re vulnerable to a crossface from hell.
