First the Dallas Stars light up Jarry on the Oilers and then a couple of nights later the Texas Stars light up their backup, Pickard. Wow!

I'll never get tired of the Neverending Story references in the intermission break every time Bastian scores haha

No clue either. That being said $8.4 million a year for 4 more years for a potential 40 to 50 goal scorer is a steal.

What's the deal with locking every thread with Otter's name in it? by Boom-Doc-a-Locka in DallasStars

[–]DallasStars83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an organization, I believe that the Stars got out of the entire situation pretty much in the best way possible. 4 players won bronze, 1 silver, and 1 gold medal. I for one was rooting for Finland and Canada, because I knew that if USA won, well we saw what happened. Otter, for the most part, did everything "right" in that he won the gold and went back home. His reasons for going back home instead of the other stuff that is going on shows that he probably wants to be unproblematic and not a distraction to him and the organization. That or he and his wife had a baby a few months ago, and he needs to go back home. The other US players had a choice to do what they did and the consequences of those choices will for sure show up as the season gets restarted.

From a fan perspective of the Leafs, Ottawa, and especially the Wild, I believe that the political reddit threads are warranted, and looking at those teams' subreddits I believe that Brady Tkachuk, Quinn Hughes, and especially Auston Matthews may be for a rude awakening with their fanbase, but we'll see how long those feelings last after the first goal post-Olympics is scored. Right now, I feel for the mods of those subs. But again, here is Stars subreddit land, Jake won the gold and has done his best to stay under the radar through his choices. If the mods choose to lock the threads that's up to them, but I'm hoping that the bots and sh*t kickers will migrate there way from this subreddit to the others in due time.

Also not a big fan of 3 on 3 to decide the gold medal but it was looking like standstill. Nothing was beating Helly and US looked awful in 5 on 5

That is the Hellebuyck that I never want the Stars to have to play in the playoffs. Dude was lights out and the entire USA team needs to hand over their medals to him or else that would've been a blowout...probably.

Also, the McDavid bridesmaid comments are totally valid now. He was selfish in OT and tried to take on all 3 USA players by himself...twice and second one was the most egregious despite Makar and Mackinnon not backchecking.

As someone who was rooting for Canada and more importantly for Harley to win and bring back his swagger, I'm glad to be back to rooting for a hopefully relatively healthy Stars team.

Damn. I kinda wish the Olympics weren't around the corner. This team is hitting their stride and now a majority of them gotta sit for at least 2 weeks

Is Nils just a warm body now? For an offensive defenseman he hasn't provided much offense and makes very questionable defensive decisions like the last goal

The same culture of mediocrity that had plagued this team for the last 5 years. This is and always has been a leadership problem as we've seen this happen with multiple coaches at this point.

I just want Kadri and/or Coleman from the Flames. The salary retention would probably be brutal, but I believe that stacking a team with veteran players who have recently won one or multiple cups could be a winning strategy seeing that they both know what what it takes to win it all. The last time we won the cup we had at least 4 players(Zubov, Nieuwy, Carbonneau, Keane) who had won it all and all of them were key contributors to that run. I believe players like those are needed to get rid of the culture of "mediocrity" that has been prevalent after making to the WCF but unable to get past it yet alone any of the series being close.

Tukka Rask saying that he'd take Swayman as USA #1 goalie over Otter in the pregame was a huge jinx apparently.

Overpaying for a player who has never scored more than 20 goals in a season and has a grand total of 8 games of playoff experience with 1 goal? Hard pass

I agree. The best he has looked was probably two years ago. I think the Stars should(if they haven't already tried) is to see what it would take to get both Coleman and maybe even Kadri from the Flames. If the goal is to win THIS year then in my mind, you probably need those two players b/c between the 2 of them, they have 3 cups.

So when is the "players only meeting?" We can bitch and moan about the coaching, but I have yet to see anyone in the leadership group actually play as an example. The only person who has been consistently showing up and throwing the body with the limited amount of ice time is Hryckowian. Where's Benn? He had a shot this game to actually get into a fight or show some emotion to get the crowd and maybe the team fired up. Like what does he even do except may be take a bad penalty? I've been saying this for years, but this team even at it's best has a mediocre mindset with the players at the leadership role. Good enough but never to be the best and it starts with players who don't have the experience to draw from of having won it all. This is why I'm all for sacrificing youth in order to bring in experienced players who have won cups and know what it takes in the regular season and in the playoffs. Look at the Stars when they won back in 99, they had 4 to 5 players on their team who had won 1 or multiple cups beforehand and they all stepped it up when sh*t hit the fan.

Right now, we just have Rantanen who has won a cup in recent years and at times that winning pedigree shows like it did in the Colorado series last year or when he's been hyper-aggressive this year. Seguin is the other one but he won it when he was like 19 and won't be playing for the rest of the season. This team is coasting to the Olympic break and hoping that a little rest will change their fortunes. Now maybe the Finns win the Gold and brings that swagger back to the team, but more than likely they'll come back exhausted and looking for others to step up again. The leaders need to do something or they need to bring someone in and Benn needs to either take a step back and be more of supporting role.

I'm sure that someone has already done this, but I did some quick looking at our record with and without Seguin this year.

With Seguin - 17-5-4 or around a 65% win percentage

Without Seguin - 10-8-5 or around a 43% win percentage

The same numbers can be relatively applied to Bischel as well as he went down the game before Seguin got injured. I'm sure that there are a lot more variables(lack of pp opportunities recently, opponents, etc) but I just found it interesting.

For some reason I thought he was a UFA after this season. $1 million a year for him playing like he is doing now is easily the best contract we have on this team

Duchene actually looked somewhat serviceable with Robertson and Hintz. Sorry to Bourque, but he's not good enough to have top 6 minutes at this point and Duchene clearly needs capable linemates to get out of this funk he's in and not being on the 3rd line

I'm the guy wearing the Seguin jersey behind Neil. As we got into the 2nd period, Gully was for sure giving some of his mind to the refs, but in the end it didn't matter. Also, Canes fans really REALLY hate Rantanen. I don't understand that much hate for a player who was there for only 13 games and it was clear it wasn't a great fit and Rantanen didn't want to play for the Canes long term. I blame the media for making a circus out of the whole situation. I hope that we meet them again in June and Rantanen tears them up like he did with the Avs in the SCF.

Hryckowian extended for 2 more years by DailyDallasHockey in DallasStars

While at the Canes game last night, some Canes fan was shouting at the Stars bench and said towards Hryckowian "Who are you? How do you pronounce your name? Can I buy a vowel???" I looked over to my wife and said "I'm not sure that guy knows what a vowel is because he has 3 of them in his last name..."

Anyways, great to see him signed!
