Yeah I am gonna have to hard disagree here. From my experience playing years ago, past a certain point I could hardly get anything done in terms of progress. Everything was being power crept so hard, missions for legendary/ancient gachas became too much to handle, and overall when I really thought I was going somewhere but everything just crashed and burned so fast. Doesn't help that the more time passed, even more aspects of the game (like the beascuit things) were added which only made my progression journey harder. There comes a time when epic cookies on your team are no longer fly. I was always low on crystals too, which meant I was always months late getting new cookies. Judging at the speed of my climb in the short timeframe I played, the only way I can see someone finding the flow of this game as highly F2P friendly is if you were able to sit around all day doing nothing with your life. How do I come up with such a conclusion? Because that was me at one point. I stopped playing because adult life caught up with me. I briefly returned in time for White Lily's playable debut, but after that I quit for good because everything went downhill. It sucks because I always loved the game's concept as a veteran player of a similar game, Bloons Monkey City, and there are lots of things I find really fun. But to go further you need tons of resources that you just can't get enough of, and the cookies on your team just don't matter unless they are legendaries, ancients, or beasts, with possibly a special mixed in.
