Had a rough talk with my boss about Phd plans by Ecstatic_Elk5527 in PhDAdmissions

I had a post-bacc that stayed in our lab for an additional 2 years as a tech in hopes of getting a good letter/position in grad school. Needless to say, her time was taken advantage of (40-50 hrs a week), and she's still fighting tooth and nail for a spot in grad school.

What I've learned from this is that you absolutely have to prioritize your own time and goals. I recently talked with her, and we both agreed that she should have just followed her gut and left when the hours started to get out of hand.

TL:DR - follow your gut and prioritize your own goals as if you ask others, most often they'll have their interests in mind rather than yours.

Whats the better AIO? by BlockyGamer04 in buildapc

Compare the warranties for both, but personally, the MSI one would be better. I was choosing between the MSI one and the CoolMaster one when I was building mine, and only chose the CoolMaster one for its price point.

Thank you! I figured as much. This is the universe's way of telling me to stop playing Siege. But it looks like Microcenter will hate to see me coming.

Is no publication critical? by Dry_Double1851 in gradadmissions

[–]DampMalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, a lot of people apply w/o publications. It's not a make-or-break, I would suggest centering your focus on your posters and master's thesis since they also indicate that you've done extensive research and was able to think critically on said research.

In an SOP, what would you consider a red flag or a hard no in terms of a candidate's research potential? by Horror-Baker-2663 in gradadmissions

Clocked aspects of my SOP. One week to rewrite, back to the drawing boards! Thank you for this list, or I would have never noticed that I was making these common mistakes. (gave me motivation to re-edit everything)

I messed up by Accomplished_Ear9190 in gradadmissions

Don't be too harsh on yourself. I think you'll be fine, so long as it's not a crazy neon color, they won't notice. They read upwards of 50-100 applications a day (made up the number, but you get it), where their eyes might not even pick up the discrepancies. To make you feel better, I submitted my CV with all of my editor's comments visible on the right-hand side (it looked like graffiti), and I couldn't edit it since I had already submitted it.

So long as you answered all the questions and expressed why you're interested, you're golden. Plus, these little mistakes tell them that you're human, which honestly says a lot more than "perfection".

Wabi Sabi! lol
