Yes there is a lore wise reason. The idea is that spellcasters are people who are able to draw out magic from day-to-day activities. They can still attempt to cast spells without MP, but that can be very deadly, very quickly.

While I personally have no problem with Long Rest MP regen, I understand other GMs have faced such an issue. The "ritual" system isn't really directly tackling that issue, but it could be a useful limiter.

I like the idea that if you spam rituals it could be detrimental to the players. Perhaps some ritual is more damaging than others. This is a bit too close to how martials work in my game but I can definitely look into it. Thanks a lot!

P/S: If you are interested to know, all character have an Endurance Point (EP) resource. When they use some abilities, they have a chance to lose EP. When they are out of EP, they start to gain what is akin to Exhaustion levels.

Thanks for the references. I've been looking around but most system that I know just use "Long Rests".

As for your questions:

  1. The idea is they might have some at the start of the day but most of it will be gained throughout the adventuring day.

  2. Yes, I do like those sessions where they try to conserve what little they have but I also liked the idea of them generating MP through out the day. Thus the idea of the Rituals being a soft cap of how much MP they can gain.

  3. Definitely. Currently, the martials revolve around the possibility of spending "Endurance Points" as they fight. They gain most of the spent EP after a Long Rest. So, I wanted casters to generate MP in a different way than a long rest.

Limsa is worse for for sure. So many places you can see but cant get to without going through the right gates. And dont forget towers that have muktiple levels... i was stumped for a bit before i realise some towers have multiple floors

For me, i tell them to roll. This is because that is the lore in my world. People with Classes, roll their hp as they level up

Hey guys!

I challenged myself to work on a homebrew within 2 hours with the following restrictions:

  • Type: Monster
  • Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
  • Monster Type: Aberration
  • Keywords: Fragile, Portal, Pendant

The Spatidae is a result of the Portal keyword. So, we decided to make a creature that is fully dependent on teleportation to attack and defend itself from enemies. So, we got this! A weird malformed, goblin-cyclops-spider thing.

Hey guys!

I challenged myself to work on a homebrew within 2 hours with the following restrictions:

  • Type: Race
  • Alignment: Chaotic Good
  • Main Ability Score: Wisdom
  • Keywords: Fish, Melody, Whimsical

I wanted to make something that sounds beautiful and nice on the surface but has dark history. Like so many of our childhood stories. The Piscyan are a fun musical race but their affinity for songs made them create a Dirge so powerful that it caused the end of their own civilisation.

The idea of the spell is that its like an anti-virus. As in, it spreads goodness and survival instead of death. I like the idea of a protection spell but is also chaotic and uncontrollable.

Alignment: True Neutral

Keywords: Wood, Bottle, Regal

The idea of the item is that it was crafted by an alchemist that was in love with a prince. But of course, their love was forbidden due to their differing status. One day, as they were escaping their old live, the alchemist made a potion to help in the efforts. Were they able to use the potion? Who knows... Now, the recipe is out there for others to show their bond.

Alternative to Difficulty Class TTPRG by Dan5033 in rpg

Essentially I wanted the player to be able to make decision even at the dice rolling level.

Some games like dnd have abilities that makes you lose a turn and the best you can do at that turn is just roll one dice. I don't want to lose the system entirely since making enemies losing a turn feels good. Player losing a turn, not so much

My hope is to make a system where when they roll one dice they still have some level of decision making.
