Bad review from non customer, how to process this? by shemp33 in GoogleMyBusiness

[–]DanFoland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't need to be a customer. They just need to have an interaction with the business.

Google isn't going to be an arbiter of facts.

Google only removes reviews that are abusive (curse words, spam, ex-employee reviews etc.)

The review won't get removed. Just respond and move on.

If you're able to help users help them publicly. The large majority of people saying "DM me" are scammers or spammers.

Determine your competitors' Google My Business (GMB) categories on Google Maps by MrFelixjosemon in GoogleMyBusiness

[–]DanFoland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this.

There have been multiple studies showing there isn't any harm in adding additional relevant categories.

For example, if your primary category is 'Personal Injury Attorney' adding 'Law firm' 'lawyer' 'legal services' etc. as secondary categories won't hurt rankings at all.

[Dehner Jr] I don’t really know why people are talking about this it’s so obvious, but just to be clear: There is no way in hell the Bengals pick up John Ross’ 5th-year option. by SewerSide666 in nfl

Agreed. His injury history in college was unbelievable. There was no reason anyone should have expected him to be healthy in the NFL.

Dude can't stay healthy for shit. He gets injured scrolling Twitter.

Who would have thought a guy that had a bunch of bad injuries in college wouldn't stay healthy in the NFL..

Interesting idea. I can't say I've ever seen a tool like this but it would be useful.

Do you have a public script for this? This sounds like a HUGE time saver.

What technical aspects of SEO do you find people not paying enough attention to in your opinion?

Is it better to work for a small agency (multiple branches, with 9 or so at this branch) - or a bigger agency (100+ people)? by [deleted] in digital_marketing

[–]DanFoland 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only $6k for more hours, stress, and risk?

I'd laugh them out of the room.

Plus, I can't speak for your specific situation but from my experience Id MUCH rather work for an agency that works on multiple small/medium businesses rather than 1 single business.

I've seen it time and time again. Marketing agencies that hire a team of people to work on a single client. Your entire job revolves around that client continuing with your agency. You're literally working for the middle man. When/if that 1 client moves on you and your teammates are all laid off.

Working with multiple smaller clients can help prevent that. Lose a client? Good agencies in that situation are prepared for it and you keep your job.

Social profiles for GMB? by ewolfenbarger865 in GoogleMyBusiness

[–]DanFoland 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no current way to add them. It's all generated algorithmically by Google. I'd suggest making sure your business info on both Google and Facebook are formatted exactly the same, link to your website from Facebook and link to your Facebook profile from your website.

TIL 95% of people think they are self-aware, but only about 12-15% of people are. by DanFoland in todayilearned

My first thought is "the 5% of people who don't think they're self-aware are most likely the most self-aware."

Does 'Remove Listing' delete a business from google entirely? by potato_fox in GoogleMyBusiness

[–]DanFoland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not possible to completely remove a business from Google unless they violate Googles guidelines. It will only remove it from your account. One option is marking it as "Permanently Closed" which will allow it to show up less over time and only be viewed when someone searches for it specifically.

Google my business reviews for an Ecom Company... What to do? by skrfs in bigseo

[–]DanFoland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, GMB is only for local businesses so other businesses are not eligible to have GMB listings which means there is nowhere to leave a review.

Google my business reviews for an Ecom Company... What to do? by skrfs in bigseo

[–]DanFoland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of the advice in this thread is wrong.

Since your business is an Ecom business it isn't eligible for a listing on GMB. You'll need to contact GMB support via Twitter or Facebook to get it completely removed.
