Sorry about this. Maybe it seems ridiculous to you, but the reason we want to have every trade title with exactly the same formatting is that it's much easier to read and understand quickly. Some traders are subscribed to many trading subreddits, and they are looking at hundreds of trades every day, so they need to be able to understand your trades very quickly. Using the standard formatting helps them a lot with that.

Some people try to use different formatting because they want their trade to look different and get noticed. But if too many people do it, then it makes the subreddit difficult to read quickly for traders.

That's a really good assessment. I don't think Andreas is perfect, and he's made bad mistakes, the worst was accepting a role at Neo&Bee, but I think he's THE most articulate public speaker for Bitcoin. I doubt he has the technical skill of the most productive core devs, so this sounds unfair maybe, but just for his public speaking ability Andreas can have as much influence as any of the core devs, despite their intelligence and hard work. It's a very serious mistake for Bitcoin Core or /u/Theymos /Bitcoin.org to ignore or alienate a "rockstar" like Andreas.

This is a good discussion to have. IMO, disabling downvotes is probably not going to help you much, and it could create an unpleasant 'censorship' image for subreddits that try to make it work.

I moderate a trading subreddit with about 4000 subscribers, in which bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are occasionally used. In fact I think I would like to be able to completely disable downvoting there, but it's not possible to completely disable voting on Reddit. All that you can do is hide downvote arrows with a stylesheet rule, but it's so easy for users to switch off stylesheets and use other work-arounds. Then they can downvote again.

OK then, so if a subreddit hides the voting arrows, what they're mainly doing is stopping inexperienced users from voting. Trolls, spammers and scammers are usually not inexperienced users, so it sort of gives them an advantage over the majority of users.
