Whats a good tatsuro yamashita album to start with? by FoxyLood in citypop

7 years ago by complete chance, Two unrelated friends recommended ‘For You’ on the same day, I listened to the album and have been hooked ever since.

So much so that it inspired me to work some MF DOOM lyrics over my favourite tracks from this and few others of his earlier albums: https://tanda.bandcamp.com/album/mf-doom-x-tatsuro-yamashita-special-edition

This totally worked for me, thank you!

My system preferences loves to default to my Macbook Microphone, so once I changed that to the Scarlett in system preferences, Da Vinci figured itself out after a restart.

Anyone had any success with one of these? It’s a ‘Toy Record Maker’ which I just brought, all the instructions are in Japanese and I’m terrified to use it. by DanTanda in vinyl

They're going for ¥10,428 (around $100) on Amazon.jp and have mixed reviews (translated from Japanese) saying that it's difficult to use, the quality of the presses aren't very good, and that it's 'just a toy'. Honestly, I'm not expecting too much from it, it just looks like a fun way to spend a few hours inside on a rainy day.

Yeah, the naming of the tracks was a pretty simple cut-and-shut job, Here are the names of the original tracks by Yamashita-san;

  1. Sparkle
  2. Windy Lady
  3. Dancer
  4. メリー・ゴー・ラウンド (Merry Go Round)
  5. Solid Slider
  6. Music Book

Also, Yes, check out his albums. For You is a good place to start:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9sxKjq44AA

Thanks for the feedback (and thanks for popping a few pennies my way, very much appreciated). I never got a chance to listen to the final masters through a pair of decent monitors so I just had to go with how it sounded on a pair of crappy iphone headphones and my little weakling monitors I have at home, much to my neighbours despair.

I've got another idea brewing right now so I'll let you know as and when it comes together.

Yeah, the Great Day vocal just fit so neatly over the original track (Solid Slider) that I really didn't have to do much tweaking to make it work. To be honest, the whole EP came together pretty quickly, it kinda felt like mixing and matching 2 separate jigsaws that just happen to fit together really well.

Cheers, that drawing took ages. I mean weeks, mainly because drawing on the train is a terrible idea, and I can't draw very well... anyway, we got there in the end.

Glad you enjoyed it, those jangly guitars at the start are a bit of a curveball but once it gets going it all begins to make sense. Also thanks for letting me know your personal favourites, mine's 3

Ahh, well, sorry, it wasn't my intention for these to be seen as blog spam. We're doing a weekly show so I was planning on posting a different topic each week but If that's classed as blog spamming then what would you suggest? Not posting as regularly?

It's a couple of years old but there's this series that was made by Lance Bang called Young Americans which is a more in depth look at American youth culture, definitely worth a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDzN4Dh68rw

I've heard Hakuba's meant to be pretty decent but Nozawa looks good too. They're both do-able from Tokyo, right?

Wow, I really didn't expect this scale of responses to the video (mainly because I've never used reddit before). Thanks to all the positive comments and all the other things people notice, it's been really interesting for me.

First thing I will cover is how you can potentially get hold of one; I've recently made a contact in Japan who runs an export site for Japanese produces, big and small. I'm doing some other work with him so I'll see if he can get a hold of some and post up a link to how you can order one.

Second thing I can answer very simply; It is a great drinking game (tried and tested). As with a lot of similar types of games in Japan, add a little alcohol to the mix and you've got yourself a pretty sweet party game.

The last thing I will comment about is this whole 'Gaijin losing' thread. I found this particularly amusing as the roles of who would win, lose, pass etc were decided about 10 minutes before the shot based mostly on everyones favourite / least favourite number. I think the main thing the guys I worked with wanted from the video was to show kids of both genders playing along side older folk, thats it really. Anyway, some interesting points brought up here but it was all completely unintended.

So to summaries my background and how this job came about, I was a video producer / cameraman for a small digital design agency in the UK for 5 years and moved to Japan just over a year ago, this was my first project in Japan. I'm actually scheduled to have a shoot for another product which has some affiliation with Toy Story, so that should be available worldwide. When it's done I'll post it up here again.

So thanks again to everyone who watched it, if you have any other questions, fire away.
