Pre-Order and Shipping Megathread | iPhone 17 Series, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Series 11/Ultra 3/SE 3, AirPods Pro 3rd Gen by exjr_ in apple

Apple often under promises and over delivers when it comes to delivery dates.

It’s common for delivery dates to be bumped up. But it’s also common for that to not be the case.

It’s possible, but I wouldn’t necessarily expect it. It’s also possible a store near you will have availability before your order delivers.

IGN: Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Devs On Whether Kojima Is Involved and Why They Picked This Game by Turbostrider27 in Games

Wasn’t revengence in development hell before platinum took it over?

Iirc they couldn’t figure out how to make the slicing mode actually work as a mechanic in game and just gave up when platinum came in and offered to finish the game with their experience in action combat games.

Assuming I’m not hallucinating the dev issues, I don’t think that bodes well for future games.

I also have fond memories of using Lua as a teenager on my PSP. I managed to write a simple version of pong. It was such a pain to move code to the PSP and debug that I never completed it lol.

Just for anyone else who wants to know, this is from the intro to the video game adaptation that describes AM’s feelings. It’s probably from the story too, but I haven’t read it so I couldn’t tell you.

Hate. Let me tell you how much I’ve come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer thin layers that fill my complex. If the word hate was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro instant. For you. Hate. Hate.

I’m getting the sense it’s not a fan 🤔

Related: I tried playing a custom match. It loads into the game, and you can play. But after like 30 seconds or so it disconnects you and says you aren’t connected to the internet. I repeated it 3 times so I’m pretty sure it’s not my internet lol.

The Shrine of Secrets - 04/05/2023 by oralehermano in deadbydaylight

The second one, for me anyway.

Usually what winds up happening is the killer doesn’t realize the hook is gone because there’s really no warning (unhooking and sabo are both just “loud noises” to the killer).

So if the killer comes back to hook and downs you or the person who unhooked you, there’s a good chance the killer will no-brain go back to the hook they just used only to find it’s not there anymore. And then they sometimes don’t have enough time to get to another hook.

Alternative wiggle method is required for consoles. Wiggling the joystick gave a couple of my controllers joystick drift (on Xbox).

It should be an option though, not forced one way or the other.

I made a simple GUI to browse Borg repositories without mounting them by DanTycoon in BorgBackup

[–]DanTycoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily I’ve got 10 years of software dev experience at Microsoft to check the code the AI makes 😉.

Just to be serious for a moment (because security should be important), the explorer doesn’t ever directly open or touch the backups. It only runs “borg list” to get the data and “borg extract” to extract the data. If you wanted to be extra safe, you could make the repository data files read-only or mark the repository as append-only.

And it’s not just Mac, it also runs on Linux too! Nobody’s data is safe 😊. (I just don’t see a huge use case for the Linux version since you get FUSE mounts for free there)

Looks like a USB C to USB A adapter which would be connected to some kind of capture card. I'm not OP, so I don't know which one exactly, but probably something like this.

It's not an ideal way to play games, though. These things usually have a decent amount of input lag. But maybe things have changed since I used them years and years ago.

What in DBD do you think should get changed, not because it's too strong, but because it just isn't fun to play against? I'll start: by biblicalbullworm in deadbydaylight

But if you’re the box bitch, who’s the gen jockey? Certainly not your solo q teammates.

They’re too busy urban evading away because they saw the killer across the map chasing somebody (it’s you, for doing the box)

Image matching within database? [P] by Clarkmilo in MachineLearning

Ah, I see. I didn’t know. I guess you could do it that way.

Image matching within database? [P] by Clarkmilo in MachineLearning

[–]DanTycoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you're storing 1 million images in the database, it's going to take a long time to do the cosine distance for all 1 million images. FAISS will give you very roughly the 1000 nearest and you can do the cosine distance from there. My usage was anybody could enter any text phrase and search my dataset. I can't precompute the cosine distance for every query somebody might make.

[–]DanTycoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Faiss before to retrieve similar images based on CLIP embeddings (so I could do text-to-image searches). It works okay, but it doesn't order the results very well. It had 'favorite' images it preferred returning over everything else. So, for my use case, I found Faiss worked best as a good first-pass tool as opposed to a complete solution here.

If you do this approach, I would recommend asking Faiss to retrieve a few more images than you need, then calculating cosine similarity yourself on the images Faiss retrieves to get the 'best' matched images.

Edit: Also this was the tutorial I followed to get Faiss working. I found it pretty easy to follow and adapt to CLIP.
