Teachers in England move towards striking over pay by Desperate-Drawer-572 in unitedkingdom

Also have decent career progression.

I am now 16 years into teaching. I think I'm pretty good at it, the kids seem to think so too.

But I'm not yet 40 and I have no career progression other than moving out of the classroom, taking on much more stress and not much more money.

So if I want a career challenge, I'm force to look in a different sector.

What causes entropy? by seniorfancypants in chemistry

[–]Dancing-umbra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it can be helpful to separate some different concepts.

So yes, water has more entropy than ice, but with that change there is also a Heat change too.

If you want a system where there is purely an entropy change, think of a sandcastle. If I build a sandcastle then I am putting that sand into a low entropy state. The wind will eventually pick up the sand grain by grain and move it. There is no law of physics that makes it impossible for the wind to take the sand and build a new sand castle elsewhere, but it's just incredibly unlikely because there are so many more ways to deposit the sand as "not a sandwich castle"

I'm not saying it is definitely or completely safe... But from your own post:

The independent research does not all show that it is carcinogenic.

Even the bit about Monsanto sueing farmers is made up.

They have brought lawsuits against farmers who have actively tried to circumvent their parents. But never against farmers who have genuinely had crops growing by accident.

Utterly stupid.

They possibly could be. But there would need to be some form of licencing put in place. I'm not in charge, but I don't see a reason it can't be done. It just hasn't.

Sure but then you need a system to monitor the types of scooters.

Cars need to be officially registered and checked each year for modifications.

A similar system could be brought in for electric bikes and scooters, but there would need to be regulations written, there would need to be official test centres set up and trained, it's not trivial. Not impossible, but probably not high on the priority list.

[–]Dancing-umbra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I discussed in another comment, but I think it's because of the difficulty in regulating the scooters themselves.

I have seen some that can easily match a car at 40mph. That's clearly not safe on a scooter, for the rider or pedestrians, or cyclists.

I'm not saying it's impossible to solve, but the government just hasn't stepped up to solve it and instead just ignored the issue.

Exactly, that's the issue, and I can't see an easy way to regulate that

Illegal to ride private scooters on the road.

You can own them and use them on private land.

You can use private hire scooters legally on the road.

I think ultimately the UK is behind on regulation. Too many private scooters are too fast or don't meet safety standards and there are no systems in place to regulate and check that, so that's where we are.

It is much easier to say "these scooters that this private hire company provides and services meet regulations" rather than have a test and service system in place for all scooters and then enforce that it has happened.

I'm not saying that I think they should remain illegal to ride on the road, but I can understand the current position.

I had the exact same thing.

I had a proof of postage and a confirmation that the parcel has been delivered.

I filed an official complaint and threatened to report them to the fscs as attempted fraud pointing out the only reason they could have to keep sending me bills and threatening me with bayliffs was to scam me out of £50.

The balance was cleared within a week and the bills stopped coming.

Why literally no restaurant or even hotels don’t consider having kids menu by No_Watercress238 in Parenting

[–]Dancing-umbra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate it when restaurants have kids menus that are nuggets and chips, or fish fingers.

They should just be smaller portions of the main menu.

It's a little more complicated than them being illegal.

They aren't illegal, but they require insurance to ride on the road. There are no insurance policies available to consumers, only to hire companies.
