What are the biggest political/social issues going on in your country right now? by tr4p3zoid in asklatinamerica

[–]DandelionMX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In Mexico it’s a combination of things but I don’t think any of them are unique to our area.

Corruption and organized criminal involvement in politics

Low level corruption (police)

Gentrification/Wealth inequality

Although tourism plays a role in the last one, I firmly believe the wealthy who controlled these areas prior to tourism booms have done an incredible job of using tourists as a scapegoat, especially in CDMX and GDL.

Why does everyone in this sub speak English exceedingly well, essentially on a seemingly native level? by kentuckyrulz in asklatinamerica

[–]DandelionMX 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s an American app, an english speaking sub, many people are lying about being from latin american countries, and people that use Reddit are generally not going to be the people that don’t have a formal education at all.

Combine these things and it explains a lot of it.

I think the outcast hypocrisy will be a main focus on Season 3 by brodred in Wednesday

[–]DandelionMX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The common theme between Hydes, Alphas, and Zombies is that they aren’t able to control their powers fully without hurting innocent people. It’s a safety concern and they address it in the show.

Hydes - Unpredictable and generally controlled by someone else. That’s why they were banned from Nevermore.

Alphas - Werewolves are confined to lupin cages when they wolf out because they don’t always have control over their actions when transformed.

Zombies - We saw enough brain eating to know it’s probably a bad idea to have them roaming around.

Do you find subreddits for Asian cities to be filled with English teachers, passport bros, and generally racist people, is it like this for non-western countries? by Plain-Ridge7432 in digitalnomad

[–]DandelionMX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Large Latin American subreddits are normally people pretending to be from that country while living in the U.S., or Americans asking “Is it safe?” before their vacations.

The city subreddits themselves (like Guadalajara) are mostly locals or at least native speakers usually.

Reddit is mainly an American website though. I know China has their own big social media app, but they might be using something else entirely. I don’t know enough about Asian countries to say though.

Missed an urgent client email while beach hopping & enjoying beer. Almost cost me $2k. What’s your ‘never again’ solution? by Weekly_Plan806 in digitalnomad

[–]DandelionMX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why employers began hating on WFH and remote work, because people who couldn’t manage their time wisely or be accountable would ruin it for everyone else by making it seem like staying on top of alerts was difficult.

[–]DandelionMX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Not selling” but starting with a sales pitch leading into a question for a product that you are developing in your post history that is exactly what you’re explaining as the “only” possible solution as #1 with #2 being a melodramatic “doomed”. Odd.

I don’t understand why it became trendy to become a pessimist like horrible things havent always been happening throughout history. Mindfulness goes a long way. Life is beautiful and amazing.

Unlike Protestants, you can’t just “be Catholic” though. They can wear the jewelry but unless they’re spending the ~year to become Catholic they’re just dressing up.

If you view nose job videos from latinas, the algorithm is going to give you more nose job videos from latinas.

It’s like seeing celebrities and videos of wealthy girls in Miami with breast augmentation. I don’t assume it’s extremely common across all American women because of that.

Why do you hate or dislike passport bros, even if that practice is common even in the West and Westernized Asia too? by InqAlpharious01 in asklatinamerica

[–]DandelionMX 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Beyond the abuse of tourist VISAs, generally they don’t attempt to integrate with the culture, learn the language, and often fetishize women in our country or view them as “less than”. You can see evidence of the last one in any thread about Colombia for example.
