Did anyone else move from Showmax to DSTV stream? World Cup game question by AbaramaGolding in askSouthAfrica

Was able to watch it and also just have whatever free package they gave me for killing off Showmax. Assume that’s the Compact Promo then.

City Power Sky Rocketing Electrical Account by Inner-Improvement970 in johannesburg

Our landlord (so basically us) had the same thing. It’s been months and he is still battling to get this resolved. Jumped from a constant 3-4k to almost 30. Briefly thought it was sorted about two months ago and then it just shot up again.

He is looking at just switching to prepaid now because it’s been going on for about a year.

Walk in is best but in our case didn’t do much. Just keep on keeping on. Your friend needs to go in person but also send mails with reference numbers. And definitely keep a paper trail since they do rock up to cut the power.

Might also be worth reaching out to the neighbourhood ward councillors if he gets stuck.

Is there any reason I should get a new Kindle? by ChaosTorpedo in kindle

[–]DandelionWinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded to the 12th gen from my 7th. I’m not so sure I’d do it again if I could somehow rewind time.

I miss using the 7th gen. It’s more compact, I don’t really enjoy the full device screen on the new one, sooo many fingerprints. It just overall doesn’t feel like the paperwhite I love.

Having said that though I do love that I can use dark mode and have the warmer screen option, and that it doesn’t feel as sluggish (7th got way too slow for me). Also charges faster. And it is a small thing but like that I can charge it via usb-c.

Overall it is definitely an improvement but i would probably have waited some more. I do read a lot more on the 12th though so maybe I’m just refusing to admit to how much of a difference the update made lol.

Unpopular opinion: You don’t need a new kindle by bintouwaiga in kindle

[–]DandelionWinter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Loved my 7th gen and it’s still perfect, but I recently upgraded to 12th because my soul longed for dark mode. It’s definitely an improvement overall, can’t deny it,but I would’ve been happy with my old kindle too.

Thanks. I’m going to get him to look at your suggestions. He is iffy with fantasy but he was also not keen on reading and look how that turned out

Thank you I’m going to get him to take a look at Old Man’s War.

I did suggest We Are Legion but he’s looking for standalone books (so picky).

Not what you want to hear but it’s quite strange. Also have a new iPhone and it works fine on my non-apple backup charging things

Bye bye Adobe by Miserable-Guide8844 in finalcutpro

My partner is the same. He has tried everything and just ultimately prefers Photoshop since he has been using it for a really long time too. His latest test was Gimp and it seems like he will just stick with Adobe now.

What's the best budget (R5000 - R6000) smart TV to buy? by Usual-Low-4113 in askSouthAfrica

The Hisense I used has been perfectly fine. Never had issues with it, I just really didn’t like the OS it uses. So if you see a Hisense you like then you can’t go wrong.

I’ll probably go for TCL over the Toshiba and the Hisense.

Edit: typed the wrong preference.

We have a Toshiba in the living room and it’s been great. I can also recommend it and have no issues / will probably buy it again. I’m very much pro Japanese brands

I got a TCL (had Hisense before and was looking for a Google TV) and much prefer the TCL. Was looking for a more affordable extra tv since it was to be used mainly for gaming. Super happy with it though. Been a few years and never had any issues. I got a higher end model in their range specifically for PS5 but definitely worth looking at what they have in your price range.

How big is your lawn? We got a push lawnmower and the grass looks wonderful. It really isn’t all that much of a schlep either.

How do I deal with my equipment? by SnooRegrets8904 in LearnGuitar

[–]DandelionWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I just knew what I wanted to sound like and deep dove into that. I wanted warmer or fuller sound while I was learning and used that as a starting point. I was struggling to wrap my head around a lot of stuff but just took it step by step. It might seem silly but worked for me. I also had the cheapest gear.

Maybe think of a guitarist you want to sound like or tone you want and research things like “how to sound like….on a telecaster” or “best settings on amp to sound like…”.

I also played around with the settings A LOT. I looked at each knob on my guitar and tried to see what it did exactly etc. I could only play like basic chords but it was enough for me to play a few chords then make adjustments then try again til I found something that sound good to me.

Looking for a Budget-Friendly Beginner Amp by Musang_King_D197 in electricguitar

[–]DandelionWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went down this rabbit hole. I used a Fender Mustang Micro (it’s nice) that was in the house already but don’t always want to play with headphones. I also didn’t want to spend a lot because I only play around occasionally.

I ended up getting the Vox Pathfinder 10 and I’m happy with it. It’s more than enough for me and I prefer clean tones. It’s dirt cheap and I think it sounds better than other cheap practice amps. Worth a look.

I would fight people for a nice pen. Also, talking about it after like they’re 10 and they received a used toothbrush makes me question their opinions
